MAil from the boarder of Casa Alianza Kinderhilfe Guatemala e.V.
Casa Alianza still gonna exist and work for the rights of children

Saturday, July 4st 2009
The board of Casa Alianza - Kinderhilfe Guatemala e.V. decided to continue the work in Guatemala with Leonel Dubon (former leader of the drugrehabilitation of Casa Alianza) and Claudia Rivera (former leader of Casa Alianza in Guatemala).

The former employees of Casa Alianza continue their work in a new founded organisation to close the gap that resultet from the closing of Casa Alianza.
It's hard work ahead of us. With your help we gonna manage it!

In the end of August we'll send out more information.

Thanks for all the support during the last months!

For the boarder

Casa Alianza Guatemala affected by the financial crisis

Casa Alianza Guatemala closed after 28 years – children left without hope for the future.

Casa Alianza is an organisation that has been working with rehabilitation of street children in Guatemala in its entirety. From directly contact and help on the street where the children are victims for violence and murder, to home- and rehabilitation projects to school and education.

Now the bank- and financial crisis has reached Casa Alianza. We feared that the crisis will give us fewer supporting activities and donations. It became worse then we ever thought it could become.
Covenant House (the mother organisation of Casa Alianza with the main office in New York) has lost values because of the property crisis in the USA. Houses and other properties have lost great values.
In addition to that several of the big contributors (among them banks and Broker at Wall Street) have stopped their contributions.
As a result of this Covenant House doesn't provide the money for the Casa Alianza in Guatemala any longer.
Since 80% of the money came from Covenant House Casa Alianza in Guatemala was closed last Friday, January 16th after 28 years.
All programmes were shut down, all employees were dismissed.
The children and teenagers living in the projects are supposed to get relocated with their families which they escaped from for good reasons.
Or they will be moved to public institutions which don't deserve this title.
Only a few will be able to move into other smaller organisations.
We don't know if there will be a restart in half a year or two years from now.

I've been supporting the association Casa Alianza Kinderhilfe Guatemala e.V. in Germany. The German association has financed projects for street children and former street children in Guatemala for many years.
Together with other organisations in Germany we are looking for possibilities to start alternative projects and to help the children and teenagers.
We won't get help from the state since we aren't a "bank in a crisis".
There are discussions about to start a co-operation with Casa Alianza Honduras and to start a replacement program for Guatemala. But we still don't know if Honduras won't be affected by the bank crisis.

There have been many e-mails and phone calls with Guatemala and New York, but we still don't have the whole picture yet.
We will provide more information as we get it.

During many years pupils, communities, private persons, some since 199, have collected money through many different activities. This money has been send from Germany to Guatemala to be used to finance help for the children.
There are many who are shocked about the fact that the children are loosing their subsistence.

I hope we'll find a way together to help the children who are affected by this crisis. We thank you for all help.
Please tell your friends about this and give your contribution!
