Todd reminds us "Jesus did not tell us to go to the ends of the earth and get more butts in the pews, he told us to make disciples. We make disciples by modeling discipleship, by serving others, by meeting needs." One of the things we do is post the sermons and selected music from our church on Godtube.com rather than just on the churches web site because we believe they will reach more people that way. Check out Godtube.com and search for videos by milkandchase (there are more than 70 presently posted.)

Love to see that this 'cause' is on FaceBook. Though I feel I must point out that 'missions marketing sucks more.'

good job, kevin. love what you're doing. i can vouch for your latest article on CMS. i did the same thing as a sort of experiment, and have raised hundreds of dollars with little effort on my part. what a great resource, virtually untapped by the church.

Todd, that's why we say it's not about butts in pews, it's about seeing Christ in hearts.

Reading a few books on this topic -- Kelly Freyer, etc. One point to keep in mind is that we tend to focus on being the church "in there" -- i.e. in the building, on Sunday morning. But our focus should really be on what we -- the church -- do "out there:" How are we "turning the world upside down" for Christ? And "in there," in the building, on Sunday morning, our goal should be building each other up for the mission "out there" Where our real work is done. Some might misread the title of this group and think that because we don't market well, we can't "grow" the membership in our churches. I would contend that "growing" our numbers is completely irrelevant. Jesus did not tell us to go to the ends of the earth and get more butts in the pews, he told us to make disciples. We make disciples by modeling discipleship, by serving others, by meeting needs. We don't need to market the church at all -- we need to market Jesus and his transforming power -- the power that frees us, in the ultimate paradox, to be slaves to all.
One book tells the terribly sad story of the pastor of a church near New York City who says that his pews were packed on the Sunday after 9/11, and then after a few weeks they were back down to his normal, unremarkable attendance figures. With tears in his eyes he said "What was it those people were looking for that we did not give them?"
