Thank you for this Article. Fathers’ right to be a meaningful part of their childrens’ lives, have been eroded to the point of non-existence. My research suggests that this is a phenomenon consistent throughout the industrialized nations. Children who are alienated from their fathers are more likely later in life to have emotional/behavioral problems, suffer from depression, drop out of school, fail in their jobs, and suffer from other social problems. I invite you to visit my site devoted to raising awareness on this growing problem: http://fathersprivilege.blogspot.com/

Suffolk County Legislature Passes DV "Registry" Legislation
By John Chichester
Thursday, November 26, 2009
The Suffolk County, New York Legislature recently passed a bill to set up a before unheard of "Domestic Violence Registry." This will, if signed into law by County Executive Steve Levy, amount to an unconstitutional abrogation of due process rights enjoyed by even the most heinous of criminals.
Long Islanders will recall that Nassau County Police's "Wall of Shame" is a page on Nassau County's web site where names and photos of defendants, accused of DWI, were posted. The page was launched on Memorial Day, 2008 but was quickly found unconstitutional by a New York State Supreme Court Justice, who found that the "Wall" violated the defendants' due process rights and, since then, the "Wall" shows only those who have been convicted.
The Suffolk County Legislature, however, believes that it can post names and photos of those accused of Domestic Violence without violating the same rights afforded to every criminal defendant
DV restraining orders are now given out like candy. The federal Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) defines Domestic Violence so vaguely that a woman's "being scared" can be construed as DV. VAWA is a federal law, passed in 1994 and implemented in 1995.
According to the DOJ's Violence Against Women website, the intent was to provide safe streets and homes for women, civil rights for women and equal justice for women in the courts. While nobly intentioned, this law has had arguable results.
Since passage, there has been a noticeable up tick in reports of violence against women. Over 30 states have redefined (down) their definitions of Domestic Violence, and 22 have implemented mandatory arrest statutes, taking discretion out of the hands of police officers.
DV temporary restraining orders, removing the accused from their homes and children, are given based on an accusation alone, most often without the accused present in court. No evidence need be presented to obtain an order and New York law does not require that a hearing be conducted to weigh the evidence and effect of such orders.
The bill now passed by Suffolk's Legislature would put the accused on a publicly available web site, branding them as "Batterers" with nothing more than an accusation.
Steve Levy will be present at a public hearing on the subject, on Monday, November 30th at 10:00 AM, at the H. Lee Dennison Building, in Hauppauge.
