It is amazing since I joined this cause how many people either have this decease as I do or know someone with it. It is definitely a cause that people need to learn more about since it seems like so many of us will meet someone who has it or will get it ourselves.

I have COPD Emphasema, I smoked for 40 years plus secondhand smoke.
I will not nag you to quit but I am happy to tell you my story:)
Having asthma gives me an idea of how it would be. I have been struggling for the last several days and not getting a good full breath or air is horrible. My meds are not helping much. So if COPD is worse, I would not want it at all. I wish I never smoked. I'm sure that it contributed to my asthma and I hope this is the worst it ever gets for me.
My mom died April 1, 2007. Watching her struggle to do something that I find so easy, was horrible. She quit 10 years before she died, but it was not soon enough. Mom was active while I was growing up and I was helpless while she suffered and died.
I hate cigarettes and smoking.
Growing up I watched my grandfather die from this disease and it was horrible. Now, I have been diagnosed with it. I did smoke. But I quit smoking September 1, 2007. Unfortunately, it was not soon enough. My daughter smoked and just quit after I was diagnosed. I wish my husband would quit. I am not giving up. I will go down Fighting until my last breath.
Updated: The cause has raised $1,000.
A much loved member of my family recently passed away after suffering for many years with C.O.P.D it was heartbreaking watching a once very active person fighting for breathe,
I am a 65 yr old female and I have had COPD for 12 years. I did not realize that I had COPD until my lung collapsed 12 years ago. The lung collapse actually saved my life because I quit smoking. Upto that point I had tried to quit several times but was never successful. I was in the hospital for 11 days and on oxygen for several weeks after being released from the hospital and by that time I was over the withdrawl, which I had feared, and never really experienced it. In December 2007 I had to go on oxygen which upset me very much but it too was a good thing because now I am able to do even more than I could before the oxygen. I have only 28% lung capacity but do anything that I want to. I am a very fortunate person and try to remember to be thankful for each day.
My mom suffered for many years with COPD. It was the hardest thing to watch someone grasping for air all the time. It controlled her every move. Her life ended to soon before because of this disease.
