About Students for Safe Prom (S4SP)

More teens are killed in car accidents during prom season weekends than at any other time of the year. But you can reduce that number this year just by making one promise. Students for Safe Prom (S4SP) is all about having an amazing time at prom and being safe at the same time. Here’s how you can help us spread the word across the nation — read the S4SP promise, and then show your support by adding the S4SP cause application to your Facebook profile. Recruit as many of your Facebook friends to the cause as you can, because the top recruiter will win a prize during prom season!

At prom this year, I will keep the promise to:

BE AWARE of what’s happening around me. I’m always texting and checking my Facebook newsfeed so that I’m plugged into anything cool that’s happening in my friends’ worlds. I should know how to have a safe prom just as easily as I know where the fun parties are this weekend.

SPEAK UP. I’d never let a girlfriend go to prom wearing pink shoes with a red dress, or let a guy friend wear short tuxedo pants that showed his socks. So if I think my friend’s too tired from dancing all night to drive home, I’ll be up front and say so, instead of putting myself (and everyone else) in a potentially unsafe situation.

SUPPORT MY FRIENDS by reminding them that I know they’re independent and determined just like I am, but I’m there for them if they find themselves feeling uncomfortable and unsafe on the road, with their date, on the dance floor, or wherever leaves them needing help.

PLAN AHEAD. I’ll have a plan in place that all my friends are on board with so we’ll be safe throughout prom and know what to do if we end up needing help at any point. I know I shouldn’t leave my choice of date, limo reservations, and outfit planning to the last minute, so why is prom safety any different?

1. I promise to be aware of what's happening around me.

2. I promise to speak up.

3. I promise to support my friends.

4. I promise to plan ahead.
