We had one student that tested 20/100 and 20/70 and couldn't believe he could now see the outline of leaves on the trees instead of the just the green color "like in a kindergarten drawing". Imagine how this student will improve academically when he can now see!
Your program is helping those students who do not have Hoosier Healthwise but whose parents cannot afford luxuries like eyeglasses. These families are our working poor. Often these families struggle to pay the electric bill in the winter. One mother told me that in the spring time they could get their daughter glasses but during the winter that money had to go for the heat bill. Your program helped that student get glasses before Christmas!

Call me crazy.. but working for a VSP doc, I came across a story from their newsletter talking about the use of their mobile clinics at community events. It seems that VSP is sending their mobile clinics out and will perform exams and provide glasses if needed in cooperation with various organizations.
In the past I helped organize a 3 day mission with the Gift of Sight's (aka Lenscrafters) vision van. We did screenings over a period of weeks, and then took the kids who met the criteria of need/income/etc come to the clinic over those three days for exams, glasses, and fun. Working with Bridges to Success we received grants for entertainment (african drumming, screen painting, etc). Through soliciting donations from various stores, we put together some goodie bags (ECCO even gave us some rubber eyes!) and various restaurants donated food for volunteers and the kids who were their at lunch time. (Chick fi A, Papa Johns, McDonalds, Panera..)
We were able to help several hundred kids, had the news media make a great story about the community service, and hopefully helped some people to succeed...
Perhaps PBI and VSP can partner for an event..
