Our philosophy of long-term, comprehensive health and humanitarian care—real medicine—means treating communities as well as patients. Our work saves lives, alleviates suffering, restores health, rebuilds communities, helps people help themselves and creates brighter futures.

Currently, we aid over 1.5 million victims of disaster and poverty in twelve countries on four continents…one person and one community at a time:
• Asia: India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Myanmar/Burma, and soon Armneia
• Africa: Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Uganda, Sudan
• North America: USA
• South America: Peru

OUR STORY

It all began when Los Angeles-based pediatrician, Dr. Martina Fuchs, flew on her own to Sri Lanka to help victims of the catastrophic Asian Tsunami. Once there, she treated patients and helped establish a children’s clinic. Realizing that lives remained shattered long after the immediate disaster needs were met, she created the Real Medicine Foundation in May 2005 with the help of friends. What started out as a promise to a small village on the Indian Ocean sparked a chain reaction of friends helping friends helping people suffering from poverty and disaster all over the world.
