WPA is a direct service and advocacy organization committed to supporting women as they identify and build on existing strengths to create a solid foundation for a successful life. Women use our services while in prison and jail, and at four community sites in Manhattan and Brooklyn, New York. Our Institute on Women and Criminal Justice program translates lessons gathered from our direct service work and from women’s life experiences into recommendations for improvement of our correctional and human service systems.
1. For more than 166 years, WPA has promoted the use of non-incarcerative, community-based solutions to crime.
2. Our services make it possible for women to obtain work, housing, and health care; to rebuild their families; and to participate in civic life.
3. WPA assists more than 2,500 women and their families annually in their homes and communities, to live self-sufficient, law-abiding lives.
4. The Institute on Women & Criminal Justice works to bring new perspectives to public debate on women and criminal justice.
