The best gift your child can get is your loving guidance. That's why Parents As Primary Teachers has partnered with the Brooklyn Children's Museum to bring you Shake, Rattle & Roll, a family experience making music, exploring different cultures and investigating science concepts.

In our "Shake, Rattle & Roll: West Africa" series you will learn the traditional Lamban composition from the Mande countries and play AUTHENTIC cultural artifacts like:

* Djembe Drums
* Dundunba Drums
* Agogo Bells
* Cow Bells
* Shekeres

As you're exposed to all of the instruments, YOU select the instrument and rhythm pattern that you feel comfortable with. By the close of the series, you and your child will experience the joy of contributing to the group performance of the Lamban.

During the sessions, which are all held in the beautifully renovated Brooklyn Children's Museum, your family will:

* Make your personal West African percussion instrument
* Conduct fun and meaningful hands-on science experiments
* Promote your child(ren)'s literacy

Best of all, Shake, Rattle & Roll is an activity you do as a family, building lasting memories as well as your child's life-long love of learning.

Registration in Shake, Rattle & Roll also gives your family full access to the Brooklyn Children's Museum on session days even if you're not a member. In fact, non-museum members registered in Shake, Rattle & Roll get 6 museum visits for the entire family but only pay the equivalent of one admission ticket per day! Now that's value!

Registration deadline for "Shake, Rattle & Roll: West Africa" is Tuesday, February 9th.

Register by Tuesday, February 2nd and receive an early bird refund of $10.

Applications for full and partial scholarships are welcome. To be reviewed, they must be postmarked by February 2nd. Please, write "scholarship application" beneath the address on the mailing envelope.

Note: Should there be more qualified candidates than there are scholarships available for this series, the postmark date will be added as a "first come-first served" factor when all else is equal.

Our scholarship privacy policy:

Sealed applications will be submitted to the Scholarship Committee, which is made up of parents who value the parent-child partnership in education and have been resourceful in exposing their children (who are now grown) to academically enriching activities. The Board and Personnel of Parents As Primary Teachers will not review applications. The Committee will review the applications with utmost sensitivity and maintain the confidentiality of the applicants. The names of scholarship applicants/awardees will not be made public.
