A member of our group needs financial help. She had been trying alternative treatments for distemper, but the dog suddenly made a turn for the worse. The dog is heavy into the seizure stage and she can't afford the spinal tap treatment. [http://kindheartsinaction.com/2009/11/05/treatment-of-neurologic-distemper/] She is fr… Read More

i really hate some vets...y do they always say that your dog is hopeless and will die after diagnosing that the dog has distemper...they should research a lot if they really wanted to save dogs from any diseases..how come that some of them doesn't agree with this NDV..Many dogs die everyday because of CDV..If they just accepted this vaccine, many dogs will be saved..Just like my pure little mooddley..he suffered so much with this virus..but it was too late to use NDV and I cant afford the spinal tap treatment...Losing a loved is really hard..I hope every Vet in this world would know that..
My dog was diagnosed with canine distemper...I tried to find newcastle Disease vaccine, but im new in Indonesia..but now, it's too late to use NDV for my dog is having seizures.I cannot afford to have CFS tap and i do not know who can perform that here in Jakarta..Below is the photo of my puppy.
As to getting the Newcastle Disease Vaccine, it is usually available in agriculture supply stores for chicken ranches, because it is for a chicken disease. People have been able to get access to it in the Philippines, India, the Dominican Republic and elsewhere. I will contact you and see if I can get someone who can help you with the language.
5 dogs in our university have distemper. they're being treated with antibiotics, intramuscular vitamins and bromehexine, but only 2 of them have gotten apparently better. The two younger pups have been showing symptoms for 5 days, they're 2 months old and don't have their mom with them. They weight around 4kg. One of them has a fever even though we're also giving them medicine for that. The other seems a bit stronger, but they're both so tiny that we fear we'll have to eutanize them in case they get any worse. They already have trouble breathing. We don't know what to do.
This is happening in Chile and it's kind of impossible to find a vet willing to do Dr Sear's method, as documentation is mostly in english. I also tried to get the vaccine but it isn't sold to people without prescription. In case anyone here is in the area, please, we need help NOW.
Hi, I got your e-mail just moments ago, and sent you info. I keep saying it, but it is still true: There is hope.
Hi
My brother has a Bernese Mountain dog, he is 5 months all and has distemper. They live in Bogota, Colombia and the doctor told them that he is in phase 2. He is eating and seems to be fine, he has diarrhea (2 per day, after his meals) and now has nasal discharge and coughing). The doctor sent him some drugs to fight the infections and another drug (I don't have the name of it yet, but the VET says that they are using it in Europe).
Is there anything that we can do to save this dog? Thank you for your help. Patricia
Hi,
My puppy Rexy is 3 months and a couple of days old. I don't know what the chances are that he may not be infected, since he was exposed to our two other dogs that recently died of canine distemper. Those dogs died about a month ago, and this new puppy (Rexy) has been showing symptoms of diarrhea, eye discharge, nasal discharge, coughing and just today we saw that he was drooling, and he appeared to have lost control of his chewing gums. He had diarrhea for some about 2-3 weeks, and that towards the beginning of January. The rest of the symptoms have been noticeable since mid December. Before, we thought that he had diarrhea and had lost so much weight because of hookworms and roundworms, so he was being treated for worms during this past week. But now that we saw that he was salivating, we think he is infected with canine distemper, because we saw that symptom in
the other two dogs. I know this is a lot, but if you could please help me, my mom doesn't know what to do with Rexy anymore, and I really don't want to see him go through what Tom and Jerry went through. I live in the southern part of Texas, the Rio grande Valley in a city called "Pharr." But right now I am living in College Station because I am a college student attending Texas A&M University. I really do wish you can help me, so that when I visit my family I can see Rexy again.
Thank you,
Blanca Garcia
Thanh, I saw your post and sent you some info. It's hard to save puppies that young, but there is hope.
Hi
My wife and I have rescued and fostered over 109 puppies and adult dogs over the past three years. We have successfully and lucky in nursing two dogs with distemper and one with parvo back to good health with supportive care.
We recently received 6 lab puppies with there mom from a northern california shelter. The puppies were about 3 weeks old when we got them. The mom began showing symptoms of "kennel cough" within a day of us receiving them. We had to pull her from nursing after a week in order to treat her. Once that happened the puppies began to get similar "kennel cough" symptoms. Ultimately, all of the puppies began getting sick. The first to get sick was hospitalized after it developed nasal discharge, facial twitching, loss of appetite, lethargy and finally seizures. The vet initially thought it was a sever case of roundworms, which has similar symptoms as distemper.
The one sickest puppy was hospitalized four days ago and put down yesterday because her entire body began to convulse despite being "out of it". This morning one of its brothers began to have seizures. This time we had the vet prescribe antisiezure medication in order to make the puppy more comfortable. The vet is recommending that we put the dog down. The other puppies look like they are getting weaker as well. We need a miracle and help.
I live in Orange County, California, can you please tell me who is available to provide this treatment in the OC or Los Angeles.
Thank you.
Thanks so much Ed. I have read and replied to your email. I am crying since morning when I heard the bad news. But you gave us hope when you replied. I will be contacting the vet first thing in the morning. We won't give up on Thomas. We're with him in this fight. Thanks so much Ed. This means a lot to us.
Help. We had Thomas (a shih tzu pup DOB:0ct. 20, 2009) last January 9. But now the vet is saying he might have distemper. I asked them to do some testing to confirm if he really has distemper. But while waiting for the results, I looked for a treatment already even if the vet said there's no treatment for distemper. We love Thomas so much and we cannot lose him. I have seen in your video gallery that there is a Distemper survivor from the Philippines (where we live right now) named Icy. It gave me hope that the treatment is also available here in our country. Please let me know where is the nearest place where we can get the shot for Distemper Treatment here in our country. We are located at Metro Manila, Philippines. So I know where to run if the results show that our Thomas really has Distemper. Please let me know asap. Our vet will call us later about the results. It is best if he doesn't have Distemper. But if he does, at least I know where to get the shot right away. We want to save him. We love him. We don't want to lose him. Please let me know. Thanks.
We have just heard from St Louis. Donna is going to drive to see Dr Zilkha. We also done the serum Injection Saturday on a small Chihuahua name "Chili". Pixie had a CSF Tap last week & doing better. Will keep you all posted as results keep coming in.
Update on Pixie: We took Pixie to Austin to see Dr. Zilkha and she had her procedure on Thursday. She's already doing quite a bit better and looks like she feels better. The Doctor is really happy with her progress and now we are just waiting to see if the twitching ceases. It is already improved some and her eyes are brighter. Will keep you guys updated.
