For those of you who are following but don't know Dana ... On Monday night, Dec. 8 she was hit head on by a drunk driver who crossed the median on River Road in Puyallup. Dana was driving a Nissan Sentra and the drunk driver was driving a pickup truck. Both drivers were estimated to be going about 50mph. Dana suffered two broken femur bones
(the upper leg bone near the hip). One of the broken bones found its
way thru her skin. She also has a broken knee cap, a broken orbital bone around her right
eye, a broken jaw, a fractured skull, and various cuts and very bad
bruises. Along with the major injuries she suffered broken fingers and
a fractured sternum. The News Tribune of Tacoma reported that the accident happened at 11:30 pm and it took police until 9:30 AM the next day to clear the scene, before traffic could flow again. She is currently looking at a minimum of six months of rehabilitation once she gets out of the hospital, before she can return to work. Doctors also said she wont be able to place impact on her legs again (I'm assuming this means jumping or running), however, we are praying she will be able to make a full recovery (doctors generally have to err on the pessimistic side or else they can get sued).
She is one of the most sincere, genuine people and she truly has a huge heart! If the same thing happened to any of her friends Dana would be doing all she could to help her friend out. She is so giving and so caring and so thankful for every good deed someone does towards her -- which is probably why there has been such an outpour of support for her. It would be hard to believe that she has any enemies in the world, she is just that kind of person. She is fun, energetic, funny and an over-achiever. We are so honored to call her our friend.
Dana was a varsity cheerleader at Cascade Christian all four years and also cheered at WSU her freshman year. After that she worked on the Daily Evergreen's advertising staff for a couple of years. She has always been into fitness and currently was teaching a class at the YMCA. She also worked part-time as a counselor at Tacoma General and was working towards getting licensed in that profession so she could practice full-time.
She has a zeal for life that is matched by few, she unabashedly loves her family, friends dogs, the color purple and Bon Jovi! We are honored to be her friends.
Thank you all for your enormous hearts! We hope to completely overwhelm the Harris family with the outpour from Dana's friends and those who want to help her. Keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers, and keep an eye on this Facebook Cause as well as http://helpdana.com/ for updates on Dana's recovery and how you can help.
