Ugandan minister says anti-gay bill is likely to be changed

Uganda's deputy foreign minister Henry Okello Oryem has said his country's anti-homosexuality bill is likely to be changed before it passes into law. Mr Oyrem did not give details of what changes would be made, but told the BBC he was "sure it will take a different form when it is tabled on the floor in parliament&quo… Read More

Jeff and I have been together for 18 year. We look forward to a day in which we have not to worry about spending tons of money in lawers and documents to get only a potion of the legal rights that others can get with a $20.00 marriage license. In the last 18 years, we have made a strong argument for same-sex marriage to our families, friends, and others. However, up to this day, I am not sure how many of our immidiate family members and friends are ready to actively advocate for same-sex marriage. This is how strongly discrimination is engrained in the psych of society. However, there is always a light guiding us forward. I hope that we can all come together and stand firm on the face of society and demand the right to live in a world free of discrimination, wars, and other social ills. We want to have the same rights that everyone else. I see the UN having the moral responsibility to outlaw the criminalisation of same-sex love and relationships worldwide.

I had a good laugh watching today Oprah!!! It was an old program about gay and lesbians coming out... there was a woman on the audience that said "before you knew who was on the wrong side, but now they come in all shapes and forms... they can be living next door and you wouldn't know". It's amazing that it was broadcasted... it shows how some people still think... or better said, don't think at all.

yeah right - what will be changed? probably drop the death penalty but still persecute gays and lesbians. Wake up Africa - the religious right is using this issue to dig into power

It is a need of time. We all are facing discrimination from years and it is time to speak up. Don't wait for magic, wake up and join the cause.

i am replying to julian abbott's message from 3 days ago...many people are not comfortable seeing obese people, or handicapped people...should we keep them hid away too because they don't fit into a "normal society" either? i can't believe we have come so far...and yet we still can't accept homosexuality. any kind of sexual exibition (as long as it is respectful) should be seen as a demonstration of love...whether it's a man and woman holding hands or a gay couple kissing. let's try and look into people's hearts instead of looking at thier gender and sexual preference.

I believe that Anait Brutian, has made a very strong point.. How can the believers of the for ever loving and merciful "GOD" stand by, and watch innocent people being treated as "Criminals", being beaten, raped, disfigured, even been murdered at the hands of these people.. It amazes me, how the Pope, the HEAD MAN of the "Organization", is acting as if HE himself is God....

If homosexuality love and affection needs to be kept hidden behind doors, so should Hetrosexual love, and ALL forms of affection, should therefore be kept hidden behind closed doors..As then both will be "accepted", yet unknown! Julian, an eye for an eye?! Far trade I do believe?! =)

HUMAN RIGHTS are first and I believe that everyone have the right to practice his or her human rights beyond considering their individual choice, political-racial- national- identity.

methinks fair Juliette (below) doth protest too much. Why don't YOU kide your love away and "try" something you understand. I am sorry, Juliam. That was unkind and rude and I am sorry, but honestly...why should love have to be hidden if it is not a crime? Indeed, even if it is, such as it was in the U.S. for African Americans and whites to love in public. They hung a lot of men over THAT too. Get comfortable with it. It's love.

i agree with the decriminilisation of homosexuality, especially as I have tried homosexuality myself, but I think that it sould be kept discreet. I don't beleive in open exibitions of homosexuality at all. However homosexuals should not be discriminated against as long as they are discreet.
