About WaterAid Australia

WaterAid enables the world’s poorest people to gain access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education. These basic human rights underpin health, education and livelihoods and form the first, essential step in overcoming poverty.

We work with local partners, who understand local issues, and provide them with the skills and support to help communities set up and manage practical and sustainable projects that meet their real needs.

We also campaign locally and internationally to change policy and practice and ensure water and sanitation’s vital role in reducing poverty is recognised.

The United Nations progress towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals of Sanitation is one of the most off-track of all other development efforts. Lack of sanitation results in the needless deaths of millions of children each year, impeding progress in education and health, and preventing economic growth. There is a danger that in sub-Saharan Africa some goals are so far behind that they will not even be met this century.

WaterAid Australia is committed to bringing improved access to effective sanitation, safe water and hygiene education, the most essential foundations for stamping out poverty. 5,000 children die every day from easily preventable diseases caused by poor sanitation and hygiene.

Join our cause today and take a stand in the gloabl efforts to reach our Millenium Development Goals!

1. Effective sanitation for all

2. Ready access to safe, clean water for all

3. Hygiene education for all
