Heineken Sponsors Bullfighting

Stop Heineken from Sponsoring bullfighting and contributing to the continuation of this cruel and barbaric practice

Heineken owned brewer Central Cervejas has sponsored bullfighting events in the Lisbon bullring Campo Pequeno throughout the 2008 season.

It accepts bullfighting promotion as "part of the company's business" and has the logo of its local brand displayed on bullfighting posters and on banners in the bullring.

In a letter to the League Heineken UK managing director, Jeremy Blood, confirmed that "Central Cervejas brands are advertised and available" in the Campo.

Blood added that Heineken does "not take a pro blood sport stance". He has also told us in subsequent emails that because the bullring is used for non bloodsport activities as well as bullfights Heineken is not directly sponsoring bullfighting.

WE DO NOT ACCEPT THIS! Money raised through other activities is actively propping up the ailing bullfighting industry and furthermore a bullfight poster advertisement, displayed as a picture on this page, shows direct sponsorship by Sagres - one of the brands owned by Central Cervejas and ultimately Heineken.
