The Courage Campaign and Humboldt Pride would like to invite you to participate in our Friends of Equality Blood Drive this Saturday 12/19 from 12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Northern Community Bloodmobile will be located in the parking lot behind the Bayshore Mall (behind Coast Central). Snacks and drinks will be provided.
This blood drive is in an effort to positively bring about a dialogue around the discriminatory policy that bans gay men from donating blood by the FDA (this policy does not apply to gay women).
It demonstrates our ability and concern as gay men and the gay community to help the Northern Community Blood Bank meet local needs. However, if you are a gay man or are choosing not to participate we invite you to “sponsor” someone who will donate and accompany them for moral support. This will also show how many more people would have donated if they could have.
DONATING JUST ONCE CAN SAVE UP TO 3 LIVES! Please consider participating.
If you can't donate blood for any reason we are encouraging you to bring a nonperishable food item(s) to the donation site that will be donated to the Food Bank.
Also, if you are trying to recruit others to donate with you please be sensitive to the fact that there are several different reasons people are deferred from donating and not to pry as to why someone might say that they can’t or don’t want to.
We need 2 donors every half hour. Please email or call me to RSVP or if you have questions. I can be reached at justin.pabalate@couragedfo.org or (707) 845-7080.
WHO: Humboldt Pride, Inc.
What: The Transgender Day of Remembrance
When: Friday November 20, 2009 at 6:30pm to 7:30pm
Where: Humboldt County Courthouse Lawn, corner of 5th & I in Eureka
Contact: Karin Fresnel – 707-307-3988
The Transgender Day of Remembrance is held each November to memorialize those who have lost their lives due to anti-
transgender hatred or prejudice. This event is held every year in November all over the world to honor Rita Hester, whose
murder in 1998 initiated the “Remembering Our Dead” web project and a San Francisco candlelight vigil in 1999. Since then, the
event has grown to encompass memorials in cities across the globe.
Although not every person represented during the Day of Remembrance self-identified as transgender, each was a victim of
violence based on bias against transgender people. Many of these crimes go unnamed and remain unsolved. On The Day of
Remembrance, members of our community will publicly embrace and honor the lives of all transgender people who might
otherwise be forgotten. You can help us spread awareness about the dismay that members of the Transgender community
come into contact with every year. We intend to break the silence surrounding these appalling happenings simply because
someone doesn’t fit a specific gender norm.
Please join Humboldt Pride and other community members on the Eureka Courthouse Lawn at 6:30 pm on Friday, November
20th, The Transgender Day of Remembrance to recall those we have lost to these horrific experiences. Anyone who wants to
show support and honor the victims is encouraged to attend. Dress in warm dark-colored clothing. Candles will be provided (but
feel free to bring your own).
You can make a difference by being visible, speaking out, educating and organizing around anti-transgender violence.
You can effect change.

Hey everyone,
We're looking for someone to design and update the website on a regular basis. Ideally there would be at least 2 people on a "website team" and could support each other with knowledge and sharing the work.
Please let me know if you are interested or if you know someone who would be able to lend their expertise send them my way.
In Solidarity,
