Here's a list of some of the things we've managed to accomplish so far in 2010:
• Fielded the largest Conservation Corps program in our history this summer, with 92 young seasonal employees completing conservation projects across five New England states and with 10 of them still working on fall projects in northern Vermont and New Hampshire.
• Published NEW Northeast Kingdom Mountain Trail Guide, which includes many trails created and maintained over the past two decades by our own NorthWoods Conservation Corps.
• Published NEW Power For Change – K-12 Energy Curriculum packed with hands-on activities and resources for learning about energy conservation and alternative energy.
• Engaged over 1500 students and teachers from 22 area schools in hands-on learning about alternative energy solutions, our region’s valuable ecosystems, and how to work better as team members.
• Engaged an additional 80 young people, ages 6-16, in our educational summer camp programs.
• Provided 64 adult programs ranging from micro-hydro power workshops to moonlight paddles and moose shed meets.
• Collaborated with the Orleans County Natural Resources Conservation District to implement Trees for Streams – a NEW riparian buffer restoration program for landowners.
• Completed improvements to our popular ropes course and group initiative events.
• 2000 feet of road and timber stand improvements on our 10-acre forestry demonstration site.
• Completed four new forestry management plans for local landowners covering over 400 acres.
