I am a stroke survivor! Last summer 7/5/08 I had a stroke at the age of 31. Stroke does happen at any age. I am not a smoker, not over weight, I've always exercised and ate healthy. I was on hormonal birth control and add that factor to a PFO that I was unaware of....ended up having a stroke. I've since made a full recovery.

In August 2009, my Mom had a stroke which affected the right side of her body. After a month she had a heart attacked recuperated from it and sent home. Just a week ago she was back to the hospital because of chest pain. The doctor's advise is angioplasty. I am worried because of her condition plus she is already 79 years old. Any feedback is truly appreciated. Thanks.

My husband had a massive stroke in Dec. 2003 and then died 6 months later from a heart attack. I participated on-line in a Stroke Association support group that was extremely helpful. I can't find it anymore and was wondering if that group no longer exists and the Facebook group has taken its place?

My closest friend had a massive stroke a year and a half ago. She was 56 years old. She has expressive aphasia and is paralyzed in her right arm and leg. She went thru the usual rehab hospital in the beginning and then came home. Had in-home therapy and then outpatient. She was not progressing very well and insurance stopped paying. She has had no therapy since March. Her verbal communication seems to be improving slowly. But now her good arm and leg have weakened due to non-use. She lives with her husband who is doing what he can, but he is not proactive. I live 2000 miles away and try to visit a few times a year. I feel that she is disappearing and am very angry that nothing is being done for her. I am thinking that it might help to pay to bring in a social worker or other professional to evaluate her situation and make recommendations. Does anyone have any thoughts on this idea and how to find someone? She is very depressed now (understandably). I'd appreciate any ideas you may have.

My Father had a stroke last week, he is 90 years young. Now they recommend an Angiogram & possible stint in his right carotid artery... I must admit I am scared, but glad to see so many positive messages here. God Bless you All

My mom had a stroke in Jan of '08, another one in Feb of '08 and then died in my arms in March of '08. I've been around stroke patients and have seen stroke patients...but none with the result that my mom had.

Hello! I was hoping to reach out to other people who are family members of stroke vistimes. I'm dealing with my mother's recent midbrain stroke. I'm dealing with an emotional rollercoaster due to seeing such a vibrant woman who enjoyed life who is now in essence trapped in her own body. they have old me that most likely she will have to remain in a nursing home for the rest of her life. I will have to put her home up for sale because she doesn't have any other assets-the home I grew up in, so it's going to very difficult.

Yes, stokes at any age..I was a 36yr old female smoker, but ate healthy and exercised regularly. It started with PAD, while exercising I had one leg calf muscle that would cramp so bad that I could not work out. So that continued for about 3 yrs. and then in December of 08 I started having sever headaches, continued for 3 weeks and then one morning I awoke with the whole right side of my body completely numb. Needless to say the effect were only temp, but I was hospitalized and went through all the testing, and now its been 8 months smoke-free, and stroke free. It will continue to be a struggle each day, not worrying about this condition, but I have my family and friends that help me through it.

My step dad had a stroke in 2007 and is still unable to speak. He only mumbles and sometimes you can understand a word. Is there anything out there he can carry with him to help others understand what he needs or wants?
