As my contribution to those battling cancer, I have started up an org called Precious Roots Foundation, where we will be sending our ponies all the way from Trinidad to you up in the States! WE're launching our PRF on Sat 17th. Join our group as well to see how things go down here..
Does anyone know any salons in southern nj that gives discounts for hair donations? My hair is really getting long and I am trying to find a place to donate my hair.
In memory of my grandma who underwent chemo 25+ yrs ago...I cut 10" off today. I couldn't stand it anymore & needed a new short summer 'do. :) Long, straight hair isn't as flattering as I age...but I might do it again... I wish I would have known about this years ago when I was younger & my hair was thicker. :)
I think donating your long hair is a great way to mark passages in your life. I just donated a 15-inch braid to celebrate my croning.
I would like to suggest this to other women who are just beginning to grey. Before you color your hair for the first time or let it go completely grey, donate to show your care for other women!
We are hosting an event for women cancer SURVIVOR’s on August 8, 2009 in Los Angeles, CA. We are having our first annual ‘Cut Your Crop for Women of Color’, where women and men around the county will cut their hair (a minimum of 8”).
We are providing a relaxing and fun environment for those who donate their hair and the cancer survivors who want to enjoy the festivities --- hair cut, FIERCE fashion show (clothing donated by local boutiques and fashion designers), make up, eye brow threading, SWAG bags and appetizers! We will also have health and nutritional information for preventative measures. We've teamed with the State of California Farmers Market- Exposition park and will have local farmers on hand with fresh, fruits and vegetables.

I'm trying to find out how to RECEIVE a wig for a friend. I'd like to donate my hair to hers and I've got some friends willing to donate but can't find any info. Can you guys help me?
My 7-year old daughter and I made the cut today! I was a little in shock at first, but rereading others stories and about who it has helped makes it ssooooo worth it!
I'm mailing in my 8 year old daughter's ponytail tomorrow. I was so proud of her decision to do this.
First time at Mount St. Mary's College ever! I'm hosting a hair cutting event at our college in Los Angeles, near UCLA but down the street. I need hair stylists to come onto campus and cut our girls hair. Does anyone know of anyone? email me! mnguyen@msmc.la.edu.
I have been growing out my hair for 16 months, the age of my youngest son. I will make the cut tomorrow!! I am doing this in memory of my Mother-In_Law, who I never had the chance to meet. I am very ready and proud to do this. Thank you Pantene for accepting 8"!!! I could hardly take this growing out thing much longer!!
I cut 9" for this cause today and it will be in the mail on Monday. My mom lost her battle with cancer. My father-in-law and sister-in-law are currently engaged in a battle with cancer. A local 7-year-old is in a battle with cancer. I hope that in a small way that hair impacts someone's life.
On Saturday, March 7 from 9am – 3pm at Wella Professionals School, 105 Sparkleberry Crossing in northeast Columbia, SC. Sarah Brotman, age 11, has organized a hair collection for those in need. The receiving organizations are "Wigs for Kids" or "Pantene Beautiful Lengths." The school has agreed to cut and style your hair at no cost when you donate your tresses. To donate to Wigs for Kids, you need at least twelve inches, and to donate to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, you need at least eight inches.
Donation of your hair is an easy way to make somebody feel good about themselves, and it does not cost you a cent. This is a win-win situation giving everybody something to smile about. Head on over to the Wella Professionals School on March 7th and do something that you will feel great about! For more information, contact Sarah Brotman at brotman.sarah@gmail.com
I suffered for fifteen years with extreme trichotillomania, which is another way to lose your hair. I know how hard it is on your self-esteem to look for work with hair loss or a bad wig. I have had HR departments tell me they have a right to refuse to hire people who don't "take care" of your hair. I have been growing my hair long, but whenever I cut it, I will donate it to the cause. Whoever gets it will have to take henna-dyed hair, as the color seeps into the core of the shaft and can't be stripped or recolored.
I'm getting my 6 year old's hair cut tomorrow and I finally talked her into donating her hair. I hope we both don't cry! I'll get some pictures and post them soon. I wish I could have the heart for both of us to do more, but I think we're going to do the minimum 8".
The link that is on this cause is wrong. Go to

My daughter, her friend and my niece all donated their hair in 2008. My friend & I got our hair cut at a cancer fundraiser in 2009- at this event several others decided to also cut & donate their hair. It was amazing how willing they were to help the cancer patients! I currently have a Ponytail drive in progress. If you would like to donate your ponytail to this great cause please contact me or Pantene Beautiful Lengths.
It is such an AMAZING feeling to do something for someone else!
