Harvey Milk was just a normal guy who got tired of being treated like a second class citizen in his own city. The activism he engaged in was incredible not because it was particularly unique or brilliant, but because it activated citizens of all walks and abilities. The miracle was this common community.
Today, we are those everyday activists. Changing our middle names to 'Milk' provides us with an opportunity to talk to our friends about marriage equality, or just stand in silent solidarity. Join us!
I came out at 17 and I'm now 55, so I could tell many stories about discrimination! The one that comes to mind is the expense we went to to adopt our child. We were advised that we could not all have the same name legally unless we changed our names, a process that would happen without expense if we were allowed to marry. Our name changes cost $1200, lots of time, and an appearance before a judge. Separate is not equal!

Okay, this might be taken as really lame, but I write erotic fiction, both gay and straight. I have a lot of female fans of the straight stuff, and they eventually get tempted into reading the gay stuff after a while. I've had so many people tell me that I've changed the way they look at gay couples, not just because the sex between the hot guys is awesome (lol), but because I portray them in a very sweet and human way. Well, why would they be any different? I'm just glad I can open a few people's eyes.
