Lake Superior Alliance

Your donation goes to support the core mission of:
Lake Superior Alliance, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit

The mission of the Lake Superior Alliance is to work together to protect, restore, and enhance the ecological and economic health of natural and human communities in the Lake Superior Basin through the following goals:

1. To achieve zero discharge of air, land, and water pollution, as recommended by the International Joint Commission (IJC), mandated by the Congress of the United States and the Parliament of Canada, and demanded by the people of the Lake Superior Basin;

2. To work to eliminate or mitigate other environmental threats such as:
atmospheric deposition and air pollution impacts; destruction of critical habitat and wetlands; development pressures, recreational real-estate, and inadequate zoning; erosion impacts on lands, streams and lakes; exotic species intrusions; habitat fragmentation; mining and mineral exploration; underwater logging; non-point source pollution and other "Areas of Concern"; poor or non-existent land use planning; unsustainable forest management practices (federal, state and private); water diversions and drinking water contamination and supply.

3. To encourage ecologically healthy communities with the understanding thatpeople of the Basin need to earn an adequate livelihood within a healthy working environment, coupled with the obligation of people subscribing to an ecologically compatible level of personal consumption.

4. To strive for greater inclusion of those diverse interests and diverse cultures who also seek to protect the ecological integrity of the Lake Superior Basin;

5. To facilitate among all residents of the Basin the development of a stronger "sense of place;" the ethic of regarding all aspects of Creation as sacred; the valuing of one's local community; and the realization that one's well-being is irrevocably entwined with the health of the Basin's ecosystem.

I've been studying watersheds in my science class. I won't be doing much but learning about it. All I have to say is good luck and keep fighting the fight of anti-pollution and such.
