this is very sad, I don't understand why the court system wouldn't want to do whatever they can to help get the REAL killer behind bars, so much for a justice system!! This poor guys not only had to endure the loss of a loved one, but to be wrongly accused of being the one who did such a brutal thing to her is even more messed up. I can't even imagine what he has had to go through. I am praying for you Mr. Cortez!!!

Hegemony is a kind of domination that implies a measure of consent from those being dominated, those that are known as…the little people, those at the bottom of the barrel. Hegemony is different than control by a violent force. It is a steady systematic and systemic order of preponderance, rather than a rule by an iron fist. It may seem soft to the face, but this form of political power is devastating to those at the bottom of this power. When we accept the principle of our own inferiority and in simple terms "know your place" we participate in our own subjugation. More often it is the poor and disadvantaged who suffer the most from this form of political power and control, and there are a series of circumstances that put one at the bottom with no political influence, leaving them susceptible to being handled with no relief.
The Criminal Justice and Prison ‘Industrial Complex’ is one example of how Governments are maintaining control and keeping targeted people and populations thru-out America. Specific cultural and ethnic groups suffer disproportionately. The System is not specifically targeting to only people of color….thou we do suffer disproportionately. The current system has been abused, set up and manipulated. Those with no funds to pay for competent and zealous legal representation or know anyone with any political influences are being railroaded into prison. Literally processed like a piece of produce meat through an assembly line styled court system, with no relief. In states such as Texas and California, "The System" is deeply rooted and established. The effects are devastating and impacts mostly certain communities. It touches whole generations infecting the minds and consciousness of the young. Speaking on these miscellaneous effects hold no substance without statistical analysis for support. Stressing the point "When Governments are allowed to systematically and officially administer control", using corrupt policies and means to maintain political power. It is the poor and politically disadvantaged who suffer at a much higher rate than middle-class Americans. I use the word "allowed" because federal oversight has been established. Certain fundamental laws were brought into effect to prevent these circumstances of official oppression from constantly reoccurring.
In some frontier places these fundamental laws have seemingly never been seriously acknowledged or have continuously gone unchecked. Similar to the Emancipation Proclamation being brought into effect in 1863, but it would be a year later before the slaves in Texas knew they were free. Putting into perspective how some un-popular ideas can simply be disregarded in some places, where the powers that be, simply do not agree. In the 1960s during the Civil Rights Movements it was recognized and established that whether in a private or official capacity to conspire against ones Federal or Constitutional Rights while acting under "Color of Law", is a human rights violation. Certain laws such as these were brought into effect to prevent such conspiracies and it was ultimately left in the hands of the individual state to see that "Justice" would prevail.
Maybe some ideas historically did and do not resonate with some political forces. A comprehensive look into the Criminal Justice and Prison Industrial Complexities of some states such as "Texas" is one example to argue this point. So this now leaves us with the question of in who’s hands does it fall to hold corrupt local and administrative governments accountable for their actions? Conspiring against maintaining official policies, and organizing to deprive it’s citizens of their federal and fundamental rights. Regardless if the victims are aware or ignorant of there rights. Holding these Officials not only morally but judicially accountable for there actions must be upheld. I say it first and foremost it falls into the hands of those that are being directly affected by those corrupt forces. If the people that are enduring such afflictions will not speak or act on their own behalf, how can they seriously expect anyone else to put forth an effort.
Ignorance is a major factor in this issue due to a great majority of those being victimized by political corruption are poor, uneducated, people of color. The majority according to statistics come from single parent homes, drugs, alcohol, gangs, that makes them prime candidates into the "Invisible School to Prison Pipeline" and are proportionately disadvantaged in gaining awareness of not only there rights but of the structure of the political field they are up against.
Ignorance should not be an excuse, I was 16 and very ignorant, I was born into the many faces of a dysfunctional family cycle. These intricate cycles eventually lead me to a 30 yr sentence for a murder I did not commit. I am now 21 and have a basic understanding of these issues. So first and foremost I firmly believe that it falls on us! "The Little People" individually and collectively to not participate in our own subjugation. We Must Become Aware, We Speak Out, We Oppose, and We Expose. United we confront these political and corrupt forces that be. On a level in any form or fashion accessible and deemed necessary. As the Founding Fathers of America said in the Declaration of Independence whenever any form of Government becomes destructive of it’s ends It is the right of the people it is our duty to throw off such Government. The current system has established civil remedies and procedures for this sole purpose.
I now focus back on the issue of the poor, the uneducated, the unorganized and disadvantaged politically. That is compared to the corrupt forces we have compelled to resist. I have spoken out on others behalf as well as my own. Attempting to bring exposure and attention to clear detailed Constitutional Violations. I feel ignored by a Government that pledges "Justice for all" only to have witnessed and experienced it‘s only "Justice for some". I have been threatened, malnourished, gassed, segregated, humiliated and retaliated against and all for my defensive actions of exposing the powers that be. My First Amendment Right, My freedom of Speech, My right to Peacefully Assemble and Petition to the Government has caused me to be deprived, retaliated and ignored.
America! America! Am I Petitioning to the same forces on a higher level? Who can tell me!

There is so much injustice in this world, but righting this one wrong, this one so close to home for my close friend would restore a lot of faith in things...
Free Paul Cortez!
Again, FB is not allowing me to send invites...but as soon as this glitch is fixed I will be inviting friends to join this cause to save this poor innocent man.
I cannot believe that in light of such overwhelming evidence that points to a killer other than Paul Cortez, this man still lies incarcerated. This has to be one of the greatest miscarriages of justice. Someone took Catherine Wood's life away from her - someone other than Paul Cortez. Let's not take away his life anymore than it already has been. What a beautiful man with a brilliant future. FREE PAUL CORTEZ!!!
i hope u get free soon hun, ill send invits for ya, and i hope they get the right man, we know who is is and so does he, thinking of u and ur family xxxx
The FREEDOM of a man " in the country of the free " ( and everywhere else on earth ! ) should not depend on the money he has to hire a good lawyer , but on the fact that HE IS NOT GUILTY , AND JUSTICE DOES NOT EXIST TO ABUSE PEOPLE , BUT TO CONDEMN THOSE WHO DESERVE IT !
I am so Leary to live in a state that is capable of letting someone be wrongfully accused and imprisoned for so long, what do I tell my boys? How do I keep them from becoming victims like Paul Cortez?

I think it's an awful situation for Paul Cortez to find himself in if he didn't commit this murder and he was let down badly by the people supposed to be representing his case. It should go to retrial and he should be let out of jail, until the culprit is caught! It is easy for the Police to be heavy handed and go for the obvious suspect in their eyes!
