Recent Cause Activity
Narika, a domestic violence agency for South Asian women runs an Economic Empowerment Program for South Asian women (SEED) as part of our violence prevention work. The SEED program started in 2002 is designed to foster women’s economic independence through the development of leadership skills and the encouragement of personal and professional growth. It seeks to present women in potentially abusive situations with the opportunity to become economically independent so that they may live and raise their children in an atmosphere free of violence and abuse.
The program consists of 12-week classroom based training on ESL, introduction to computers, resume writing and job search. Since 2007 we have taken the program “on the road” in an effort to making the program more accessible. We now have sessions in Fremont and San Pablo in addition to Oakland. We are also expanding the program to San Francisco and Santa Clara counties.
We have recently lost the space we used in Fremont and are currently looking for space in the Fremont/ Hayward area and also in San Francisco to offer our classes. We need classroom space for 15-20 participants with access to computers and another additional room for lunch/ childcare. Any ideas?
