A Thanksgiving Update -
As you may know, the work of our children is on sale at the Waterloo Museum Store in Waterloo, Iowa thanks to Cammie Scully, Director.
We are thrilled to learn that that the work is on display and that several pieces have been sold. (See images posted) When I first saw these photos, I had tears ... thinking that these amazing children who are yours and mine and of the universe made these beautiful things instead of being on the streets, facing the life they may have otherwise have lived. I am grateful and this is what Thanksgiving is all about, for sure.
Also, I know that all of you have heard the story of 8 year old Darlene Lubin and how Gerline, Georges, Gerard and I had to 'rescue' her from her grandmother who had taken her from Jacmel and from ACFFC (school, food, art, safety, love) four hours away to the mountains to haul water, clean, and work in the fields. Well, we just received our first semester school grades for the children and Darline is #2 highest grades among all of the children. Goes to show!
Finally, we are going to have a notice up on the site and on our Facebook Cause, presenting a way for you to give a meaningful holiday gift to friends and families ... for a donation of $50 in the name of the recipient, you are providing food, education and health care for one child for one month and the recipient will be sent a card from ACFFC acknowledging such along with a beautiful papier-mâché bird signed by the proud child who created it or perhaps a fish - if you/they are more of the sea than the sky, so to speak. You can see them in the Museum Store photos.
That is all for now and thank you all so much.

We are so excited ... this Friday evening at the Embassy of Haiti, ACFFC is the beneficiary organization of the opening night fundraiser at the exhibition showing the works of Haitian and Dominican artists ... an important event at so many levels. And Turgo Bastien, the dream behind this organization is the featured artist and will speak about his childhood in Haiti and how he first came to realize that he is an artist - so Turgo's childhood has touched our children. I am hoping he will make another visit to Jacmel to paint with the children in the near future. And on October 31 at 10,000 Villages, thanks to Nancy Lee Mitchell, (store in Towson Md), ACFFC is the chosen organization for a one day fundraiser as well, with 15% of sales coming from those with special coupon in hand which I posted and will again post before end of day. As well, tomorrow and thanks to Connie Duke, I will be speaking at Keiser University, all campuses represented, and keynote speakers are the "Cool to be Kind" guys www.extremekindness.com - Keiser West Palm Beach has been supporting ACFFC via service learning and we hope that other campuses will also join in. We need all the help we can get.
Updated: The cause has raised $5,000.
