Iraq And Afghanistan Veterans Of America Inc, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit

Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) is the voice of the 21st century veteran. Founded in June 2004, IAVA is the nation's first and largest non-partisan, nonprofit supporting veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and their families. IAVA has thousands of active member veterans and more than 120,000 grassroots supporters nationwide.

The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are in their sixth and seventh years respectively. More than 1.8 million American troops have served in Iraq or Afghanistan, and thousands have been deployed multiple times.

IAVA addresses critical issues facing new veterans and their families, including mental health, Traumatic Brain Injury, inadequate access to VA health care, and outdated GI Bill educational benefits.

About this Petition:

Since September 11th, more than 1.8 million Americans, less than 1 percent of the population, have served in Iraq and Afghanistan. With the wars in their sixth and seventh years, many are facing new battles as they transition home including a stretched VA health care system, employment challenges, and invisible wounds like Traumatic Brain Injury and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

If only more people simply shook the hand of as many vets as they could and just said thanks. The smile a WWII vet gives back from a simple thanks and hand shake is a better gift than anything material could ever pose. Thanks to all serving and who have served.

as a desert storm vet, I can testify that our troops love their country and are willing to lay down their lives so that we have the freedom that we have. let us remember them and their families.

Very good cause, these people, putting their liveson the line for this country. About HAITI, I can say, I had a co-worker that came from Haiti, back in the 90's, when I met him he was in his early 20's. We worked together in a Restaurant, he knew that this isn't what he wanted to do. But he did want to show his appreciation to this country, for allowing him to become a citizen, he joined The Marines, worked hard to get in shape while working with me, was excepted in The Marines,After his Boot Camp, he came back to the restaurant to show me he made it, I was very Proud of him,as I'm sure was His parents..I hope he is doing well..
