About Homeless For a Night

Sleeping Out to Fight Homelessness

We're doing it again on Oct. 15, 2009.

On Oct. 16, 2008 I participated in Cardboard Box City and slept outside to experience homelessness firsthand. People slept in tents, under tarps and in cardboard boxes at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds with a group from my church and 500 others from around the Twin Cities. The event raised money and awareness for two local organizations that provide emergency shelter and affordable housing, Families Moving Forward and Project Home.

While the event is over, it's still just as important to remember the homeless. So consider a donation to Project Home, or support other efforts to help the homeless.

Thanks!

1. On Oct. 16, 2008 more than 500 people slept outside at the MN State Fairgrounds as part of Cardboard Box City. We're doing it again Oct. 15, 2009.

2. We raised more than $11,000 for local emergency shelters, Project Home and Families Moving Forward.

3. 80% of homeless need short term, emergency help.

4. As the economy tanks, the strain increases on emergency shelters, food shelves and other services.

5. Please consider a donation to the St. Paul Area Council of Churches, the folks behind Project Home (they set up emergency shelters in churches).
