Life Quote:
"It may not always be true in the sports world, but for the Christian, ‘chastity’ and ‘champion’ do go together. God makes us champions through Jesus Christ. Champions can make good decisions that honor God. Champions can make good decisions that honor others. Champions can be a positive influence and bring change within the Church and into society. Chastity! It is the choice of champions." Rev. Dr. James I. Lamb, executive director of Lutherans For Life
Life Thought in the Church Year:
Isaiah engages in name calling in 62:1-5. He calls desolate sinners by a new name—"My Delight." Here is a chance to address those burdened by hard-to-forget past sins like the sin of abortion that make so many feel desolate. Remind them of their new name!
Life Quote:
"Maybe you’ve had an abortion and don’t think that God can ever forgive you. You’re wrong. Jesus suffered on the cross for ALL your sins and all MY sins. Pray to the Lord and ask for His forgiveness (Colossians 2:13)." Kay L. Meyer, director of development for Lutherans For Life
At age 86, after a diagnosis of terminal cancer, Dad continued to send out the Houston LfL newsletter, until he no longer had the strength. If he believed so strongly can I ignore the cause?
A girl and her parents just contacted me because she had trouble organizing a Pro-Life group on campus at a Lutheran Liberal Arts College. It should not be so.
Life Thought in the Church Year:
They marveled at His gracious words (Luke 4:16-30). Then He got personal and reminded His hometown crowd that they were sinners trusting in their heritage rather than God. That’s when they wanted to introduce Jesus to cliff diving! Confronting sinners with their sin is not easy, but it is necessary for their salvation.
Life Quote for the Week:
"God has brought so many broken and hurting to us in ways we can’t even comprehend. We continue to proclaim Christ’s healing, and serve the needs of women and men who have experienced the loss of a child through an abortion. We know that God is in control, we also know that He uses people to do His work." Grace Kern, director of Word of Hope (888-217-8679)
The Truth of Life
“Truth forever on the scaffold, wrong forever on the throne.”
James Russell Lowell
Since January 22, 1973, the terrible wrong of the destruction of innocent and vulnerable human life sits on the throne in our country. It’s enthroned there because the truth of the value of human life has been led to the scaffold (think “gallows”).
Thousands will mark the event today by attending the March for Life in Washington D.C. That’s good.
There will be marches in various state capitols across the country, also good.
There may be letter writing campaigns to Congress and state legislatures. These too are good and important.
But before we can engage society on a scale that will bring lasting change, God’s people must be led to realize the true nature of what is going on. The only way to do that is to speak the truth about this issue based on the Word of God. I believe sharing the truth about the God-given sanctity of human life in our churches this month and this year is the most important For Life thing we can do.
“[N]o longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ.”
(Ephesians 4:14-15 ESV)
LFL’s theme for 2010 is Speak the Truth of Life. We want to emphasize speaking that truth about life to one another and doing so in love as Paul admonishes.
People in our pews need to get beyond seeing life issues as only political or moral issues. When death is sought as a solution to problems and as a source of help and hope, that is idolatry. Society promotes this “god of death” constantly.
People in our pews need to hear about the Lord of Life as a source of help and hope in dealing with these issues. The Gospel of a crucified and risen Savior is the most powerful and positive For Life message in the universe! They need to hear this message connected to the life issues and more than once a year on Life Sunday. They need to hear it consistently as part of the congregation’s ongoing Gospel ministry.
When this happens, more Christians will be properly motivated to engage society in the public square and to bring their influence to bear. Christians will also realize that dealing with these issues provides not just an opportunity to speak the truth in love countering the “god of death,” but even more importantly, an opportunity to speak the truth in love about the help and hope of the Lord of Life.
In order dethrone the wrong of the death of the innocent, we need to rescue the truth of life from the scaffold.
Your servant For Life,
Jim Lamb

"Abortion must be fought one heart, one mind, and one life at a time. This is what Christians have always done!" Diane E. Schroeder, president of Lutherans For Life
Hi everyone,
My wife and I met at Bethany College of Missions. We have since gotten married and have a little 7 month old baby girl. We are going to be going to work in Khayelitsha, South Africa in the shanty town there.

Life Thought for the Week:
Isaiah 43:1-2 outlines what our Triune God has done that gives value to human life. He is our creator, our redeemer, and the one who calls us to be His own. This raises the issue of the value of human life way above the political or sociological. Every life is a life created by God. Every life is a life for whom Jesus died. Every life is a life God desires to call into an eternal relationship with Him. We need to think again if we believe that the life issues should not be talked about in church.
Life Quote for the Week:
"Abortion and ‘mercy killing’ are hopeless solutions to human problems in a sinful world, but God has words of hope no matter what the situation: ‘[C]hoose life, that you and your offspring may live’ (Deuteronomy 30:19)." Linda Bartlett, founder of Titus 2 for Life (www.titus2-4life.org)
Life Though in the Church Year:
Mary’s at it again—treasuring things in her heart (Luke 2:40-52). There is plenty to treasure. Her child sits among the teachers in the temple amazing them with His questions and answers. Her child calls the temple His Father’s house. Her child submits. The once exalted Son of God is now the submissive son of Mary and Joseph. It was His love for human life that made it so.
Life Quote for the Week:
"When we view abortion through the lens of our Christian faith, we do not see a moral issue that needs correcting or a political issue that needs strategizing. We see a spiritual issue that takes priority. The child in the womb belongs to God, formed by His hands and purchased by His blood. Abortion not only assaults human life, it assaults the Creator and Redeemer of human life." Rev. Dr. James I. Lamb, executive director of Lutherans For Life
Life Thought in the Church Year:
Most people in the temple that day saw Jesus as just another baby. Simeon saw his salvation (Luke 2:30). Now he could "depart in peace" (2:29). Here we see true death with dignity, dying with the knowledge of our salvation and according to God’s timetable.
Life Quote for the Week:
"That God would come into this world at all for the likes of us testifies to His great love for life." Rev. Dr. James I. Lamb, executive director of Lutherans For Life

Life Thought in the Church Year:
Peter recognized the reality. "Master, we toiled all night and took nothing!" (Luke 5:5a). But he also trusted in something greater than reality. "But at your word I will let down the nets." (5:5b). People face difficult realities today—an unplanned pregnancy, a chronic disease, terminal illness. The world offers death to deal with such realities. We have something greater, the Word of Life.
