The Fair Housing Center (FHC) provides investigative services, testing, advice, advocacy, conciliation, attorney referral and community education for victims of illegal housing discrimination.
Federal and State Fair Housing Laws ban discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex (including sexual harassment), disability, familial status (the presence of children), age, and marital status.
Fair housing laws are not self-enforcing. We work to actively protect the civil rights of those who have been discriminated against in the rental, sale, or financing of housing.
Since 1992 the Fair Housing Center of Southeastern Michigan has investigated over 2,300 complaints. FHC-aided settlements total over $1,400,000. We serve Ingham, Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston, Monroe and Washtenaw Counties. The FHC is a private, not-for-profit organization. All of our services are free.
Please join us in actively enforcing federal, state and local laws that ban housing discrimination.
We can't do it without you!
1. People should not be denied housing based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status, disability, age, or marital status.
2. People should be able to live where they choose and can afford.
3. Fair housing laws are not self-enforcing- which is why the FHC-SE is needed.
