About Plant Healthy Gardens. Feed a Hungry World.

Harness the power of people and social networking to help plant healthy and environmentally-sustainable vegetable gardens around the world.

The challenge:
To keep up with the growth in human population which is expected to top 9 billion in the year 2050, more food will have to be produced worldwide over the next 50 years than has been during the past 10,000 years combined. To add to the challenge, we'll need to produce all this new food using a greatly depleted natural resource base (soil, water, and fossil fuels). We gardeners have an important role to play in meeting this global challenge by helping people, near and far, to grow some of their own food.

How you can help:
1) Invite your friends to join and support our cause
2) Make a small, tax-deductible donation if your situation allows you to do so
3) Help start a new garden or give a garden to people in need in your own community
4) Ask your friends and family to make a donation to our cause instead of offering you a birthday present using the Causes Birthday Gift function.

Thanks for your support.

About the beneficiary:
Kitchen Gardeners International is a nonprofit network of over 15,000 home-growers from 100 countries who are sowing the seeds of hope and sustainability in their own backyards and joining forces to help others to do the same. We're doing this by teaching people to garden and by offering technical assistance and mini-grants to vulnerable populations and groups around the world to help them start gardens and become more self-reliant in their food production.

PS: KGI is also the nonprofit group that lead the successful campaign to urge the Obamas to replant a kitchen garden at the White House. If we can reach the most powerful with our healthy, home-grown message, surely we can reach the most vulnerable and those most in need.

1. No one can do everything, but everyone can do something.

2. By planting a food garden for yourself and helping someone else , near or far, to do the same, you are part of the solution.

3. The more people who are involved with and support our cause, the more people we can reach and help.

4. Please share this with your Facebook friends.
