Living Classrooms

Living Classrooms Foundation is a non-profit organization, operated for the benefit of the community at large, providing hands-on education and human services initiatives for youth and young adults from diverse backgrounds, with a special emphasis on serving those living in high-risk environments.

The Foundation uses maritime settings, community revitalization projects and other challenging learning environments, and a low staff to student ratio. Our "learning by doing" education programs emphasize the applied learning of math, science, literacy, history, economics, and ecology. Key objectives of all Living Classrooms programs are career development, community service, elevating self-esteem, and fostering multicultural exchange.

2. The challenges facing those living in these distressed communities can be fixed.

3. Hands-on learning, skills training, and community revitalization are the best ways to accomplish both.

4. Hands-on environmental experiences are valuable to all children, especially to youth in underserved communities, who are often denied such exposure.
