In 16 years, America has gone from a president who said he smoked marijuana but "didn't inhale" to a president who "inhaled; that was the point." President Obama has even admitted to using cocaine when he was younger, and the American people don't seem to be holding it against him. He is open about his struggle, like that of millions of Americans, with addiction to one of the world's most powerful drugs: nicotine.
Obama agrees with many of us about treating drug use as a health issue and not a criminal justice one. He continues to talk about reforming mandatory minimum sentencing and repealing the federal syringe ban that is responsible for hundreds of thousands of Americans contracting HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis and other infectious diseases.
President Obama's attorney general indicated recently that the U.S. Justice Department is going to stop wasting federal resources arresting medical marijuana patients and providers. The tide is turning in our favor: the Kellogg's public image is in decline, after they refused to renew Michael Phelps’ contract; California is considering a bill to legalize, tax and regulate marijuana; the New Jersey Senate recently voted to legalize marijuana for medical use, and New York may pass real Rockefeller drug law reform any day now.
Together, we can end the senseless, violent prohibition on marijuana, if you sign and share this petition with your friends.

Check out the promo for this new drug awareness video, "Just4Teens": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_U9GGf...
The video rejects the "Just Say No!" and fear-based messages so often used in schools and prevention programs and focuses on honest, open and respectful discussion with teens about their experiences and the realities of drugs and drug use today.
As a (failed) product of the DARE generation, I was psyched to see a video that focuses on honest conversations rather than the same ol' lies, misrepresentations, and punitive messages. What do you all think?

Hi everyone,
Here's a link to a letter I wrote last school year. It was directed towards a NJ school board considering a random drug testing policy.

Hey Everyone, Drug Policy Aliance just sent me a bunch of bumper stickers with the picture from the top of the causes page (the one with "drug testing invades my privacy" on it)
If you want one, I'll hav e them with me in school. Make sure you only put them on your property though...it'd be a pretty bad point to make if we put them anywhere they weren't allowed.

Exactly Kevin! I'm not signing but it's not so that i'm free to party. I'm doing it because i feel like i'd be going against my principles to give in now. Jennifer's right and we haven't given up...If anybody else is considering not signing we could get a list of names together, and show them that it's not just me.

Hey Eddie -- I see you go to Allentown and have to deal with the realities of the new student drug testing program. Some of us are lucky, and didn’t have to fight against these policies while we were in school. The students in your class did really impressive work fighting against the policy, and from what I hear they haven’t given up.
