Recent Cause Activity
Boys and Girls Clubs of Philadelphia’s Nicetown location will be holding a Bicycle Safety Event hosted by Allstate and the 39th District of the Philadelphia Police Department. As school ends for the year and kids hit the streets on their bikes, the program will teach proper safety precautions to take before getting on a bicycle and the importance of following traffic safety laws while riding. After the Bicycle Safety Event, Allstate will donate eight bikes to the Nicetown Torch Club members as a token of appreciation for their leadership and hard work during the past year.
As many as 80 percent of bicycle-related fatal crashes among children and adolescents ages 14 and under occur because of the bicyclist’s behavior, such as riding in the street without stopping, swerving into traffic, running stop signs, or riding against the flow of traffic, according to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
