The title “Article Thirty-Nine”, refers to Article 39 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which provides for the rehabilitation of children that have experienced traumatic events linked to armed conflicts.
"Such recovery and reintegration shall take place in an environment which fosters the health, self-respect and dignity of the child.”
I have chosen this title as I feel it clearly represents the values and goals of my project (www.isadorebiffin.wordpress.com/about).
To be held at the Factory Theatre in Enmore on November 23, the Article Thirty-Nine concert features some of Sydney’s best up and coming bands and artists. Performers include Peregrine, The Dawn Collective, Jack Carty and The Party, Adam Cousens (from Melbourne), The Shipwrecked, Falling in Autumn, and Tim Ireland.
Speaking on the night will be Professor Steven Freeland - a world-renowned professor of international law, and Levi McGrath - a young musician from Melbourne, who will also be playing his song “Children of War”.
On November 23, the Article Thirty-Nine concert will bring young Australians together in celebration of Universal Children’s Day.
All funds raised at the concert will to go a rehabilitation centre for former child soldiers in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), run by the Jesuit Refugee Service.
