Right now, in dens throughout the Arctic, polar bear mothers are giving birth to a new generation of cubs. Birthing season in the Arctic usually spans the chilly months of November and December, but as polar bear families grow this winter, so does the threat to their unique and fragile environment. That's why Coca-Cola and WWF are teaming up again to help create a place where polar bears and local communities can thrive.
Over the past five years Coca-Cola has supported WWF's Arctic research team as they study polar bears in their natural habitat, protecting the animals from unsustainable industrial activity and educating people about the largest threats to the polar bear's icy habitat. The team's important field work has led to a better understanding of the threats polar bear families face, the most serious of which is the rapidly melting arctic sea ice. The Arctic - which spans the United States, Canada, Denmark, Greenland, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, and Sweden – is extremely susceptible to climate change.
Threats to the polar bears, and the entire Arctic region, will not go away on their own. That is why Coca-Cola is partnering with WWF to create a place that polar bears can call home. When completed, this new "Arctic Home" will be twice the size of Texas.
