Spread Art Education. Promote Collaboration. Inspire Creativity.
Exposure to the arts is fundamental to a child's growth and we believe that a creative mind is a stronger mind.
Starting in the summer of 2011, Camp Culture brought together four art organizations in the city of Houston, TX and provided the first ever Camp Culture to children in the Fifth Ward community.
Camp Culture was a collective response to combat the national trend of a decrease in funding for the arts in public schools. We enlisted some of Houston's elite art institutions to set the example in ensuring that the youth of their city would continue to have exposure to the arts. With the help of the Houston Ballet, Museum of Cultural Arts Houston (MOCAH), Conrad Johnson Music Foundation, and The Back Porch Players, Camp Culture was born.
Camp Culture provided 40 elementary aged students with classes in music, visual art, theatre, and dance. The camp culminated in a rousing final showcase, where each group of students performed or presented their new found talents to an audience of over 100 friends, family, community leaders, and children.
With our pilot program behind us, we hope to build on what we started in 2011 and improve upon our model of bringing the arts back into schools.By continuing to partner with local art institutions and schools, we want to promote our vision of collaboration and be proof of what can be achieved when groups combine their energy and expertise for a common cause.
Please help us continue to provide art education where it is lacking.
Thanks for your interest!

Yes, The arts are everything!
Thank you everybody!
Whatever job or profession you have to pay the rent is only part of your life. Art, music, literature, dance are the other part of your life, and without those your life is gray. The arts lift you up, add colour and dimension to your world. It is the job of schools to introduce a child to the joy of listening to and playing music, looking at paintings or creating them, singing and dancing, writing poetry, reading novels.
