Thank President Obama and show we have his back on Prop. 8

To: President Barack Obama and your administration

Mr President, thank you for your support of equality for all under the law.

Mr President, thank you for your support of equality for all under the law.

"We, the people, declare today that the most evident of truths—that all of us are created equal—is the star that guides us still; just as it guided our forebears through Seneca Falls and Selma and Stonewall; just as it guided all those men and women, sung and unsung, who left footprints along this great Mall, to hear a preacher say that we cannot walk alone; to hear a King proclaim that our individual freedom is inextricably bound to the freedom of every soul on earth."

A brief filed by U.S. Solicitor General Donald Verrilli Jr. argues that bans on same-sex marriage cannot stand at least in states that already have granted same-sex couples nearly all the rights of marriage. To give those rights while withholding the status of marriage would amount to discrimination based on a person's sexual orientation, and that cannot be justified under the Constitution, the brief says.

"The designation of marriage," the brief notes, "conveys a message to society that domestic partnerships or civil unions cannot match."

"Tradition, no matter how long established, cannot by itself justify a discriminatory law,"

"Prejudice may not be the basis for differential treatment under the law."

It seems a bit weird to say "Thank you for saying thank you!" but thanks anyway.

President Obama has done more than any other President to support equal marriage and we thought we should say thank you.  We hope that if enough of you say thank you as well that we'll send such a wave of positive energy the way of the Supreme Court that they'll stand for equality too!

Let's show the The Chief Justice of the United States and the other Justices that we have President Obama's back on this issue by each getting a few of our friends to say thank you too.

We're going to DC soon and we'll deliver your thanks in person and maybe drop off a copy for the Chief Justice too!

Let's see how many thank you's we can get!  Will you ask your friends to join us?

    Thanks!

    Andrew & Kenny
