Dude Deserves To Be Evaluated and a Chance to Live

Dear Sheriff Haley,

I’m in trouble and need some help. My dog parents did not understand or seek legal advice and I got labeled DANGEROUS by the law. I have been really good and just got in trouble; 10 days shy of my probation.

The Washoe County Animal Services wants to KILL me.

I’ve been in jail since January 28th 2013 and am scared and would like to go home. I miss my family and the other doggies here are really scary; barking and growling at my family when they come to visit.

I was rescued when I was a puppy from the SPCA. I am a neutered male Pit Bull Mix and have all of shots and current licensing. I am a family dog. Even though I am about 8 years old, I have a lot of puppy energy which has been mistaken for aggressive behavior. I am a good dog. In the past, my dog parents have not been so diligent in keeping me from roaming at large. This caused me to have too much freedom per the law. Due to my breed and high energy behavior it caused a little panic and scared some of my newer neighbors. I alert/bark, and have ran towards people to get attention. It got me in big trouble. The neighbors who have lived next to me since I was a puppy know and love me; I am not a dangerous dog. I do love people and only want to play. Please come visit me in jail and see for yourself. You can also visit me on facebook at facebook.com/reno.dudedog.

I would like to be released so a certified dog trainer can work with me on my behavior. My dog family is devastated and has spent a lot of time and money making sure that my environment is in compliance.

I am not a threat and have found a professional who wants to help me. Ashwin with AmaZulu K9 in Reno, Nevada has already spoken to my family.

Please allow me to be release so Ashwin with AmaZulu K9 can professionally evaluate me. I would like to be able to present to the Judge a fair evaluation of my behavior and proof that I deserve to live.

Animals are often misunderstood and Pit Bull breeds are commonly discriminated against. Our beloved pets protect us and love us. Dude is a loving dog and has never maliciously hurt anyone. Pets get in trouble when we as owners don't provide them the direction they need. The law on dangerous dogs is very vague and opinionated; lacking professional oversight and does not require the dog or owner to receive the help they need to overcome and live full happy lives together. Dude is a good family dog and deserves a chance to work with a professional. He is a smart, loving dog. He should be released to a professional for some training and a fair evaluation. His life depends on it.

I DON'T CARE WHAT ANYONE THINKS OF THIS COMMENT , THE DOG ISN'T THE PROBLEM , IT IS THE FAULT OF THE OWNER/HUMAN! BE RESPONSIBLE AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY! IF SOMEONE TAKES THE TIME AND WORKS WITH AN ANIMAL USUALLY THEY RESPOND WELL , NO MATTER THE BREED OR SPECIES. I WOULD LOVE TO UTHANIZE PEOPLE WHO HURT ANIMALS MENTALY OR PHYSICALY.( TOO BAD IT'S AGAINST THE LAW )! IT SHOULD BE ILLEAGLE TO BE STUPID!

If it was illegal to be stupid there would be no one left.

Even with the best training dog's get out sometimes. He didn't attack anyone so I'd say his training is pretty decent. I do think if you see your neighbors dog running around free the first thing you should do is call your neighbor and see if they can get them BEFORE such an extreme measure is taken. Especially with a dog as obviously sweet as this one.

If you are a dog lover, please sign this petition. Dude needs your help.

she just stated that a repair man let him out by accident... crappy neighbors. My close neighbors and I keep an eye out for each other. But yes, good fencing is dog owner rule #1

EXACTLY...We need say NO MORE, a dog can NOT be PUNISHED for HUMAN ERROR!

Any person buying, adopting or finding a dog and decides to keep that is potentially dangerous should go through professional training.

Respectfully mam ALL dogs are dangerous. Those small breeds everyone loves so much have a higher track record of causing nerve damage when their sharp little teeth pierce and pinch. Used to work in a dog groomers, and it was the little dogs they feared most, not the big ones.

yes I signed this is horrible and injust I know alot of pits that are sweetest things remember its not the dog.. its you as the trainer to create the dog to who it is.....

I agree. The only reason why people are scared of these babies is because heartless wastes of oxygen, who call themselves "people" use them in dog fights. But it still isn't THEIR fault. It's the persons fault for being a completely ignorant, and useless worthless piece of crap.

In my experience. These dogs are shy, playful, and cuddly. They LOVE to cuddle and sleep beside you in bed. My friend has a pit and my god that boy is so great. He's a lapdog, a big one but the second you sit or lay down, he literally just climbs up and lays beside or on top of you and just sleeps. It's adorable. They are harmless.

I don't think anyone really takes into consideration that it's not the dogs fault. It's the owners fault for treating it in such a way that it turns into what it naturally isn't. And that's why people disgust me

My pup is very sensitive, but he is also highly interested in other dogs. VERY interested. Every breed has characteristics that one must be aware of when working the dog or having it for a pet. Pitts are very sweet, and they were bred for aggression for the most part. Sure training has a lot to do with it, but you have to also consider what the dog breed was created for and respect the instinct that comes with it. My rottie wants to herd the chickens, the horses, the cats... The pitty just wants to eat their droppings... he ain't into herding..cheers

Please Evaluate Each Dog and Situation Carefully! These Are LIVES YOU ARE DESTROYING!

Please let him have a chance for training and a chance to live. He is just getting a bad rep for being a pit bull. Look at that picture of him with the kitty. I don't think that is not a dangerous dog at all. Please let him have the help he needs.

as a veterinary technician for 8 years, and an assistant manager of a private shelter, I've never had any problems with pitbulls. Look at the other end of the leash......And maybe animal control should re-valuate this case AND their egos.

There is always 2 sides to every story folks
