Bill 16: An Act to amend the Animals for Research Act and the Dog Owners’ Liability Act with respect to pit bulls in Ontario, Canada.

We the undersigned believe it is time to end the restriction of pit bull type dogs in Ontario, Canada. These beautiful Animals have been banned in Ontario since 2005. Many families have lost their beautiful family members due to this outrages law.

There are families that would love to live in Ontario but are unwilling to give up their family members.  It's time to end this NOW! It has been proven that there is no scientific designation as to what a pit bull type dog is. There is no evidence that one type of dog is more dangerous than any other. In signing this petition we the people of the undersigned would like this ridiculous ban removed. We would love to see these beautiful Animals back living in a loving, friendly province such as Ontario.  It is fully within Premier Kathleen Wynne's power to reconstitute Bill 16.

Tell the new Premier to put Bill 16 back on the Order Paper for Third Reading so that it can be voted on immediately.

Breed-specific legislation (BSL) is a law that bans OR restricts certain types of dogs based on their appearance, usually because they are perceived as "dangerous" breeds or types of dogs.

**It is a common misconception that BSL refers only to breed bans. BSL is seen in two forms: bans and restrictions.**

A breed ban usually requires that all dogs of a certain appearance ("targeted breed") be removed from the municipality wherein the ban has been implemented. After the effective date of the ban, dogs in the municipality that are identified as targeted breeds are usually subject to being killed by animal control, though in some cases, such dogs may be saved if relocation is an option. Breed bans may have grandfather clauses that allow dogs of targeted breeds to stay in the ban area (provided they are registered with the municipality by a certain date, and likely subject to various breed-specific restrictions

Stop blaming pets for the owners bad behaviors. Nothing wrong with Pit Bulls.

Humans are to blame for most dog attacks. Training them to be vicious or letting them run loose.

UMMMMMM, I actually have a birth defect of the brain where my brain is too big for my skull and went down my neck, I had surgery to decompress it and it never affected my temperament nor did I feel the need to bite people. I am sorry this is ignorant. It is called Arnold Chiari Malformation. I am glad you like most animals Becky but maybe do a little research first. I guess my new screen name should be vicious mauling brain to big human that acts like a pit bull Michelle. BTW I was lucky and had the adult onset one but most children pass away at a very young age from this defect. It is related to Spina Bifida.

Unfortunately, Pitbulls attracts the wrong type of owners.... The young ones that likes them just because they look tuff and the drug dealers who wants violent dogs... No wonder there are so many negative feedbacks... You would never see a drug dealer or young man with a poodle...If the dog is trained and socialized, there wont be no problems...

Agreed But how do you know what owner is going to treat his/her dog with the love and care it needs ? Hard to weed out bad owners Maybe a register with Police and a vet like a gun or car but i can already see the city cash grabs with extra papers to buy and you would have the bad guys keeping the dogs tied up inside the homes

I own a Pit Bull named KoCo, before I got her I listened to the ignorant talk about these breeds until I did my research about these lively and wonderful and awesome and smart dog that God created!

I too had believed all the hype, then we rescued Scout, a pure breed American Stafford-shire Terrier, and if anyone looks at the 1000 pics of Scout cuddling with the whole family they would know she is a teddy bear, all dogs like to protect their family and bark. Our mini Dachshund, Oscar is the only one who had nipped a person and it was a toe. Scout about 60 lbs cuddles with the 10 lb weenie dog all the time. She is a family member. Also I saw a list of Breed Targeted dogs and it included even my rescued Heinz 57 Binks that passed away from cancer, because she had a spotted tongue, another rescue we had named Yoda who was part German Sheppard. I just think it is stupid.

Maybe an owner register would be more applicable, so irresponsible owners are prevented from animal ownership.

I agree with having an owner register.

Ann Marie Stevens

If there is a registry for 'bulls' there should be a registry for all large breed dogs, have you ever seen a Rottweiller in action, two bites from those 'bad boys' and they can snap a neck!!! Lots of fighting breeds out there, just that 'buls' are cheap and disposible.

I don't have a problem with banning these types of breeds at all. Breeding is a horrible thing anyway, and too often these dogs are used for the wrong purposes.

Sandy Cordes

If you ever have had the joy of having a pittie shower you with kisses, lay beside you and lick your face when your sad, you would never be able to say that...people breed all kinds of dogs for their own greed and profit...should we ban those too? its not the dog to blame..its the people who make them do bad things that should be banned..Not the breed

Cam Gould

Any dog is lovely. There is no reason to choose one bread over another, and the sad fact is that these dogs can be dangerous. Breeding in general is a bad thing though, and we all know it.

Ich kenne ganz tolle Pitbull Hunde!!!!!

I propose a BAN ON ALL WHITE PEOPLE BREED also, how would you feel if that existed as in history.
white populations have commited the most atrocities since centuries , does that mean all white are bad?

Jionni Anthony B

Darren Sean Madden Then I propose there is a "dangers dog act" that pertains to any dog that shows any kind of agression and punishes the owner not the dog. lets be honest the owner should be responsible

Jionni Anthony B

oh and pitbull arnt the only intimidating breed....shall we just ban all "intimidating breeds" cause scum bags like to own them?
