hello
It is very important that all of us affected by Sandy be very vocal and outspoken and in the public eye while doing so (in my opinion) on the subject of FEMA directing the Army Corp. Of Engineers to repair Seawalls ,Bulkheads and jettys and Sand Replenishment. Lots of these projects have been pre approved and FUNDED for years and no work has been done. Most of these projects would have saved our Government an untold amount of money. I think we need to have all of the people we have met along this journey have all there people write letters and make phone calls to there respected politicians and urge them to make sure that these projects are followed through with.

Our home in Belle Harbor NY has been leveled, We lost everything...all our possessions. We need a retaining wall to protect our community and enable us to rebuild our home once again. As of now nothing has been done to assure us of a safe shoreline.. Please do something so we can restore our beautiful neighborhood..
How can they not help those that are in such great need? This is not how we were raised. Brooklyn is my Forever Home. How can they let such Treasure Go Unaided? Wake Up New York and Tri State Area This Is Our Home......
Susie - My wife Sharon and I were on the beach the day after the storm. When I saw your house, I was heartbroken ... then I saw Kenny's house behind yours and couldn't believe it. I'm not sure if you remember me, but my ex-wife Helen and I used to hang out with you and Jerry, your sister and Josh and the Hellman's WAY back in the early 70's.
Your photo clearly show the specific cause of the devastation in Sea Gate. In the 1970's the army corps greatly extended the 37th street jetty. This caused a build up of sand in Coney Island and starved the sea gate beaches. It was an expected consequence at the time but because. Sea Gate was "private" the corps was not allowed to expend public monies to benefit private property.
IT'S STILL PRIVATE SO WHAT HAPPENS NOW ???
Because FEMA sees a big quality of life issue they can order the Army Corp to help usinf the Stafford act.>>>
"The Stafford Act gives FEMA the authority to take short-term action, in conjunction with the Army Corps, to protect vulnerable beach communities with "nourishment" programs"
If they can spend the money in New Orleans then they can also spend money in the Rockaways, Broad Channel and Breezy Point! We should not be looked at any differently. Why is it that we become forgotten about or pushed to the side? Enough is enough!
Not just the money spent on New Orleans, look at the billions we spend on countries around the world. We give billions to countries who HATE us.
AMEN!
I grew up in brooklyn ny all my life I cant believe what coney island looks like now I'm astonished that its not fixed yet all those poor people still out of there homes and this is suppose to be america, if this was another country we would be out there helping these people rebuiling there homes so these children could go back to there own homes we need to get together and help in any way we can.god bless all the families I anm praying for you all.
i agree
well said !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you suffered the indignities that those directly affected by Hurricane Sandy, you should have compassion for them!
Thank you Josh!!
If nothing else, Sandy proved the rock jetties preserve our beaches and protect the boardwalk and homes from the worst devastation. Rock jetties should run the whole length of the beaches. Residents have said this for years but instead, the army corps continue to pump sand onto the beach from off shore which costs millions and are only temporary solutions.
They have fully funded Tgroins to be installed along SEA Gate beach Now its a waitng game
