Student Debt - One way the wealthy can control the rest of us.
Slavery, serf life....replay of the past....I do not accept that for our youths, middle age folks that want to bring Good into this World!!
So true.
With four children, three with disabilities, a 71 year old hubby with medical issues, no employment in my field, earning a minimum wage salary, unable to afford groceries, I believe my situation would constitute ample evidence as to why $800 student loan payments are out of the question to pay.
I went back to school later in life, am now a Licensed Social Worker. I did not take any loans out until necessary and were minimal, but the job market did not support me paying any money back until 20 years later, hence the interest which now I cannot pay back...... these kids are having to take out loans they don't want to, full knowing they may owe the rest of their life...... whats the sense, this has to change!!!!!
I was a Licensed Social Worker and the Republicans eliminated my job. The poor and those with mental illness are not a priority on their political platform. Thus the wealthy control the working middle classes fate and those I once served.
Ido social work under the name of case manager, Psycho-social rehabilitation and service coordinator for those who have multiple disabilities...Idaho is lucky in that way...where do u live Leslie??

Meanwhile, the former Mayor of San Diego steals from charity to fund her gambling habit and gets a slap on the wrist.
She better not
I saw that. I thought no one could top Bill Bennett, who pissed away $25 million, but she takes the cake, eats it, and gets 100 more.
You borrowed the money, you spent the money, you should pay it back.
I suggest you educate yourself: http://www.studentloanjustice.org/argument.htm . Spouting advice that everyone agrees with does nothing to solve our problem.
Circumstances beyond my control interfered with my ability to pay back my loans. Research the evidence before making ignorant judgments.
No one should ever be allowed to assume debt which may not be modified in bankruptcy. These laws have even resulted in banks going after murdered student's parents in attempts to collect. These laws are evil and should be repealed.
The problem is the amount of the payments. They expect $800.00 a month in some cases.
I have over $50,000.00 debt in student loans and can not find a job. I have been unemployed since obtaining my BS and the response I receive from the IBR plan is I do not qualify because I can not repay! WHAT? I was always pro education though recently starting to change my views.
Ths is interesting to me Shelly. Can you possibly send me the documentation where they say this, and whatever other stuff you have that you think is important? I'd appreciate it. You've touched an extremely important issue that i need to understand better. My email address is justice@studentloanjustice.org
Thanks!
