Our language shapes how we perceive others. Staying silent while others tease, bully, or ridicule others only adds to a culture of discrimination. We want to empower you to start making a difference and change the language and attitude of discrimination.
The video, "To My Grade 7 Self," was made by students from the Get REAL Movement. The concept was to create an honest portrayal of students – both straight and LGBT – looking back on their experiences in Grade 7. We wanted to get at the other side of the "It Gets Better" campaign, by including individuals who were bullies themselves.
This video has been our most successful campaign to date, receiving media attention from CTV and Global National News, and support from media sites and figures including Buzzfeed, The Huffington Post, Gay Star News, Polari Magazine and Towelroad.
Change is good. Embrace difference. Homophobic language is learned, and it can be unlearned just as easily. It's never too late.
