Your Excellency Honourable David Johnston,

REGARDING: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/thunder-bay/story/2012/12/31/tb-police-investigate-sexual-assault.html

We seek justice for Gang Rape of Native Women of Thunder Bay Ontario.

She was kidnapped, taken to wooded area of Thunder Bay, Ontario by non-native men and gang-raped because of Idle No More in Canada. Native People in Canada request immediate justice and safety on the domestic home-front with appropriate investigations.

The gang rape and murder of Native Women is not new, its been going on since Contact and Colonization. It is violent, intolerable and deeply rooted from racism and patriarchy! We respectfully ask for Justice from Highest Level of the Laws in Canada.

I FIRMLY AGREE that ANY rape on any person is a SERIOUS matter. If this case was against a Hispanic, Caucasian African American, Chinese or any other race than the SAME investigation strategies would be in place. This is a VERY serious crime! If this petition wasn't focused on ONE race I would sign. Could you IMAGINE what would happen if I was to get raped? Would there be someone getting a petition out for me? I AM SURE they wouldn't because I am Caucasian. This crime has NOT been ruled a HATE CRIME against aboriginal woman. If this was the case I WOULD SIGN! Take the RACE out and get a petition going so people charged with such a horrible crime be punished for longer and their names to be known EVERYWHERE and their pictures EVERYWHERE so we KNOW who they are.

I understand your point, Laura, but because you are a white woman your case would be taken more seriously and treated more efficiently. In Canada there is a high percentage of rape cases on native women, in fact they tend to be raped because they are native. But because they aren't white it gets ignored. Same thing happens in the case of kidnapped children. When was the last time you saw a case of a missing or murdered child on the nurse that wasn't a white female? There are many children missing of other nationalties and who are male, but because of those things the cases aren't given the same amount of force. That's what's happening in the case of the raping of native women. They're seen as lesser, and not as important, because they are native.

Elfie Leddy

I completely agree, Fredrick Cloyd. ALL sexual offences, injustices & oppressions, happening to ALL children, women & men need to be address. Not one is more vile than another so we either give voice to ending ALL these atrocities & regaining the dignity of our humanity or we will lose our humanity entirely.

Why only native women? Rape of all, native or non-native women and men must not be tolerated all over the world.

Appalling crimes such as this can no longer be tolerated. Rapists are somebody's sons husbands, fathers. The moral, cultural and psychological permission to commit this ghastly crime was disseminated in the homes of these monsters. Yes, parents, when you visit the monster that you raised in your home in prison, you SHOULD hang your heads in shame. Who else brought these cruel and inhuman beings into the world, and inculcated in them the notion that women are playthings to be enjoyed - and them brutally beaten and murdered when the 'fun' is over? The issue here is not the race of the victim , but the gender. NO woman should have to fear rape, and ALL women should expect justice and the unequivocal support of the communities in which they reside.

Ingrid Becker, the petition originally began as a call for justice for native women whose rapists and batterers were getting off scott-free because of loopholes in the law. I might have some of the details a little screwed up, but here are the facts as I understand them: The band/Native police take care of everything involving Natives on their land, a.k.a. reserves. The key here is Native - they cannot prosecute or arrest non-natives even if they do something on the reservation. BUT non-Native forces, such as the RCMP can't do anything about crimes that occur on the reserves, even if it involves a non-Native. WTF thought this up?

no excuse and no tolerance for this type of actions..doesn't matter who that female is...should be disciplined harshly! we need some strict laws in canada!

I do not care what culture you are... we are all sisters and must stand together on this...

STOP TALKING WATH IF IT IS A FAMILY...................................................................

Native women are more likely to become raped and murdered in Canada because society is deeply rooted in racism from Euro-Colonization and patriarchal laws. The investigations are poor or the murders are open with no investigations or activity to find the murderer, and more likely not solved unless bands or native leaders are directly involved and putting pressure on police officers. Native women are 3 times more likely to die from a violent death than non-native women. There is no agreements...

There is no agreements in place for protection on the domestic home-front for Native Women because Canada doesn't want to put security or protection in place or equal services for Native Women in Canada. Pickton farm is a good example - the courts just stopped at 6 victims within due process of court because the majority of the women were Aboriginal victims - the majority of the families didn't find closure to their daughters or sisters whose DNA were found strewn all over Pickton's farm. That was a real life horror story all in itself - Canada's shame and guilt surfacing and showing itself to the world filled with racism and discrimination and shameful court process given toward native women; and lack of humanity or justice for the victims; like they weren't even persons! The funding is either - one way or another, its not just given to native organizations of Canada. I am certainly tired of giving millions of dollars of funding to non-native organizations who don't understand the reality of racism toward native women, our culture, language, or background. Non-native organizations get millions of dollars to provide services for Aboriginal women - and the women don't get proper services at all in Canada. Many non-native organizations receive millions of dollars - and provide inappropriate services for rape. The funds have to go to Native Groups of Canada when it concerns Native Women. There are layers of reasons behind this letter to G.G. of Canada...native women live under the Indian Act, and certainly, non-native women don't live under that ACT. Legislated Racism and Legislated Poverty is a Legal Legislated Reality for Native Women, that doesn't pertain to non-native women. That is why I campaign for Native Women. I was the first native women to work in a Federal Prison, the First Native Model to become a National Model, and I still live under a racist policy and legislation of Canada, and I am still treated lesser than human in Canada from all levels of society and social policy - and Native Women carry the Word of Law within our Nations, not the men. Our society is not patriarchal. We are not trying to push for equality like non-native women, we campaign for restoring native women to sit in a position they were, prior to contact; which is the highest courts of native law. If you don't agree, and if you do not support or understand - you don't have to!! Keep all negativity off my page! I am tired of Universities getting millions of dollars to research justice issues on the Murder and Rape of Native Women too! Native women are a resource to research; and yet not human enough to find justice against non-native men in the court of law....they don't care!!!Dignity, Integrity, Honesty, Justice; Equal Rights in the Highest Courts of Canada and Remove Racism within the process. Now stuff that in your Peace Pipe and Smoke It!! Cry me a river...I campaign for the rights of Native Women in North America because its time they find justice.Thank you, Huy Ch Qu Sharon,

Thank you Babs...we are not here to analyze the political woe's of white women/native women or seek the purpose of why is one excluded over the other - Native Women are Treated as lesser than by Society in North America, otherwise there wouldn't be such a high rape/murder rate of Native Women. Justice for Native Women in Canada, is all we ask! The Indian Act is a Racist Tool for the Government to keep pushing us down like were nothing in society. Linear Racialized Sexual Discrimination against Native Women begins with Canada and Legislation.I appreciate all your support, and I hope that answers it. There is a huge difference with treatment by the justice system. Rape did not exist prior to contact, if it did happened prior to contact it was an abnormal act of violence and dealt with very swiftly. We only have 1 historical case in our history on the West Coast, through word of law carried down from one generation to the next and it was a harsh sentence for the man.I campaign for Human Rights for Native Women and I seeking international supports. Native People live in 3rd World Conditions in North America and are subject to neglect through investigations and courts.Plus, native women are treated differently on reserve comparable to off-reserve cases. If there wasn't such a high rate of rape/murder of Native Women in Canada, consideration of living under a totally different legislation as the rest of Canada; I would not be campaigning for international supports.Until there is proper investigations and jail for the men who prey on native women, rape and murder them...I will continue to Campaign.

OMG Sharon Lewis!!!! Are you for real????

I am a native woman, and believe no rape on any woman should be tolerated..

So, John Day, you find it acceptable that men are raped in prison? May God forbid that you or anyone you love goes to prison due to a wrongful conviction. That happens every day, too.

Stepheanie Ann Gloade

hey I'm a native woman, heres hoping he messes with the wrong native grl and she beats him to death, hey John maybe we should find him and send hm to Yuris home, lol. DONT NEED ANYONE TO RESEARCH OWN CAUSE, ALREADY DONE YURI, WHY IN THE HELL DO U THNK UR SEEING IT ON PC. Ignorant racist people eh, not hrd to tell he has no use for native women, right John.

I feel for this woman and all women in the world who were raped by these heartless sick individual(s)... as to why anyone who can do this to another human being is beyond my comprehension, I just hope Justice will be served with severe punishment for the what they have done to their victims.
