Science Pollution is a big problem. GMO Food has been demonstrated to cause massive cancer tumors in lab animals, yet we are told human consumtion is safe, despite the total lack of GMO Industry Data beyond 90 day studies, at most! This is blatant check-book corporate junk-science! It could even lead to very ugly violence! Folk don't like watching their children die slow agonizing deaths! caused by deliberate deadly toxic food poisoning with carcinogenic GMO organisms!
Lina Burns I believe that all we end up doing is muddying the genetics waters (as it were). But I also agree with you. After reviewing what credible evidence I could find, I can't buy into the hysteria surrounding the issue. Humans have been playing with genetics for thousands upon thousands of years, with some very strange and some not-so-strange results. Even G~d himself had some rules relating to this VERY Human need to control Everything on the planet......
Polution is the problem of the entire world, China is today the biggest poluter on the earth, we must put pressure on them to stop poluting or all other endeavors is useless. We in this country are not that much better, the corp. will polute to make an extra penny profit, just ask the Mitt Romney he is a professional when it comes to collecting money, Bain Cap bought companies and squeezed every ounce of profit and if that meant polute what do U think happenned. Yes our food, water, air and other resources are poluted that is why we have a hole in the ozone layer of the earth, for those who do not believe, go outside without a shirt or protection for a while and see your skin burn to a crisp that is the ozone layer not protecting us as it should. Yes alastair, violents is possible we the people are getting fed up with the beaurocracy and the lack of anything being done, U peeps are worried about our children, U better be worried about yourselves, we may not make it with the way we are destroying mother earth and the earth is fighting back.
I won't vote because the fundamental problem is not listed! Population is the issue. We have problems with energy because humans are using non-renewable resources as if they are inexhaustible, and extra humans means more will be used and more greenhouse gases released. We have huge problems relating to waste - more humans means more waste will be created. We've got huge problems with water supply, and more humans means more water and groundwater will be used/polluted etc.
It is unacceptable for governments to pay people to have children (in the way of family allowances and "baby bonuses"), especially if they already have 2 children. I never say "congratulations" to anybody for having a child nor do I go to the christening. I returned from Australia to my country of origin in 1992, encourage others to do the same, and condemn those that continue to emigrate to Australia. To avoid coming across as racist, I target the Croatian community with my "letters to the editor". I am pleased that many European countries have negative human population growth. A person living in Australia or North America has an ecological impact about twice that of a person living in Europe.
The issue of the ageing population can be solved by increasing retirement age; more options for re-training so that people are not excluded from applying for a new job at (for example) 55 years of age; people of above average intelligence should have the choice to go through their education at a faster pace and enter the workforce sooner; those who choose to do so (and that includes me) should have the right to euthanasia when their quality of life drops below a certain point.
Of course, it is not a case of population control OR reducing the per-capita ecological impact, but BOTH. Planet Earth belongs to all species. (I hope that my comment is not too long).

Keep Cananda's tar sands in the XL pipe line out of US, plus other Candian companies that are coming here and making mess of our country. They surely made a mess up there and now spreading down to us.

Yes am trying to stop. We do not need.
Electric bill is killing us here in MA. Why everything is not solar free energy? Because the government would lose to much money. Its not fair to any of us that pay the bills. Go solar or drive americans broke is the only options I guess.
I've been trying to get help from Everyone around here (Ohio) to support a solar-energy project that involved the poor in our city that would have made $$$ for Everyone!! I've yet to receive any hint of interest from the rich folk......
The rich are not worried about it cause its not affecting them. Its really sad cause we have free energy and nobody wants to spend the money to get it going. It would make life so much easier if we didnt receive an electric bill every month. I pay 141.00 a month in electric for a 2 bedroom apartment :( Way to much and thats money we could all use on other things we need to all live.

Start something! Get your friends involved, Keep them motivated!! Be the first in your area to demand these changes!
I haven't seen anyone mention the main source of practically all of our societal and environmental ills: Human overpopulation. Scale back our population to that of 1950 and earlier and the Earth would have a chance to cleanse itself of the pollution and decimation we've caused.

Well done Ben, You hit the nail on the head. Teach contraception in schools and Television especially but not only in the developing world and advise against having large families because of the damage it causes to the environment.
Something else!clean up the streets um such as no furnitureor junk around houses and clean up garbage on roads&highways who are lowlives scums who don't clean& thro garbage litter the. Highways we no who we are that does this you only care about your stinking selvs sorry if the truth hurts but the homes we live in and your streets did not do it you did! Also if you want a dog puppy,kitten, cat,or some other pet need I have to say,if u only want them just because,forget it you don't deserve...
