Pass Asm. Bill 375 to Protect California's Students
- Posted to Californians for Safe School… by Filiberto Gonzalez
To: California Governor, California State Senators, California State Assemblymembers
We, the People of California, strongly affirm that all schoolchildren deserve nothing less than a school environment that parents and community members are assured is free of teachers who commit sexual, physical abuse or drug-related acts on their students.
2,184 people signed a petition
As California law is currently written, a school teacher who has sexually or physically abused students can use the rules to their advantage to resign before being fired in order to keep their retirement benefits, even if they are later prosecuted by law enforcement for their crimes.
The parents and concerned people who make up CALIFORNIANS FOR SAFE SCHOOLS find such abuse of children and the public's trust unacceptable.
After two previous attempts to pass legislation that would speed up the dismissal process for abusive teachers, both of which faced strong resistance from California's teachers union, Assembly Bill 375 would allow school districts to fire teachers with probable cause before they could resign.

Update #4
Posted by Filiberto Gonzalez (Campaign Leader) on Mar 27Sadly, Senate Bill 10 was pulled by its author last week. A new bill, Assembly Bill 375, has a very similar objective: fire abusive teachers before they can resign. AB 375 will pass or die in the Assembly Committee on Education in one week at its hearing on Wed., April 3, at 1:30pm Pacific Time.
Now is the time to act. Take 1 minute to call at least one of the following members of the California Assembly Education Committee now, tell them to pass AB 375:
- Asm. Joan Buchanan (Committee Chair)...
