    Friends,

I wanted to address some of the comments on this page. First, this is not about taking away anyone's Second Amendment right to bear arms. I fully support the Second Amendment. I also want to assure everyone that if you signed the Sympathy Card, your name is not being used for any other petition. Friends,

I wanted to address some of the comments on this page. First, this is not about taking away anyone's Second Amendment right to bear arms. I fully support the Second Amendment. I also want to assure everyone that if you signed the Sympathy Card, your name is not being used for any other petition. Here's background on what's happened to this Cause since the shooting: After we delivered the Sympathy Card to the Sandy Hook families in December, 2012, we wanted to find a way to continue to help and support them. We spent more than a month working closely with leaders in Newtown -- many of them gun owners. About two months after the shooting, we decided it was important to keep this Cause active and honor their request that we support common sense solutions to gun violence in America. So moving forward we plan to continue to talk about, and advocate for, the need for responsible reform in many areas of the law, mental health, school safety, and yes, gun ownership. That's where we are headed. Again, I strongly support the Second Amendment, but I share the views espoused by Sandy Hook Promise and many gun owners that reform is needed in some areas. I do not believe that any type of legislation that involves guns is automatically bad. For instance, I joined with the majority of gun owners who support expanded criminal background checks as drafted in the U.S. Senate legislation. I also support limitations in high capacity magazines. Now many of you may agree, and many may not. That's freedom of speech. The First Amendment. But again, I want to assure everyone that if they signed the Sympathy Card, their name is not being used for any other purpose, and never will be! Second, if you do not want to remain as a member of this Cause moving forward, which I can understand if you have different beliefs, then you can easily remove yourself from the list by clicking "Leave this campaign" at the top of the main campaign page. Details here: http://support.causes.com/entries/20341536-How-do-I-leave-a-campaign-and-remove-it-from-my-profile. I do hope you'll stay, because open dialogue depends on differing points of view. But if you decide to leave, I wish you all the very best!

Your voices are being heard!  This morning (4/11/13) the U.S. Senate voted 68-31, including 16 Republicans, to approve the start of debate on a key measure that would require criminal background checks for most gun sales, except those between private parties and neighbors. This is a key initial victory for those who support common sense solutions to reduce gun violence. This measure was supported by many conservative, gun-owning Senators on both sides of the aisle. Just a quick update. We are just 15,000 signatures away from reaching a remarkable 2.5 million people who have joined in signing the Sandy Hook Sympathy Card. Any help you can provide by forwarding it to more friends would be much appreciated. We plan to keep this card open and are now exploring donating the page to the Sandy Hook families so they can continue to make the card available on their own website, which should launch soon.

Friends and family were asked to wear the color purple at Josephine Gay's funeral --- the little girl's favorite color. She had just turned 7-years-old this month. Her parents say she was autistic and though she could not speak, she touched the lives of so many around her-- with hugs and her sense of humor. Also buried were 6-year-old Ana Grace Marquez-Green. The little girl from a family of jazz musicians, loved to dance and sing. The family of beautiful Emilie Parker said its goodbyes as well, and thousands of pink ribbons were tied to fences, trees and signs in the 6-year-olds native town of Ogden, Utah.

This will be my last update regarding the sympathy card. Thank you for all your support. I know that your personal expression of condolence has meant, and still means, a great deal to the community of Newtown.

    Best wishes,

I am pleased to report that we have been invited to formally present the National Sympathy Card to First Selectman Patricia Llodra and the community of Newtown at the candle light vigil on Friday, December 21, at 7pm at Fairfield Hills in Newtown. The township also hopes to display some of the signatures at its Municipal Center, subject to space. Tomorrow we will have more information also on the beautiful new web landing page that Causes.com is custom creating to support the National Sympathy Card. I have seen an early version, and it is very moving. So stay tuned. Right now we are approaching 2.3 million signatures, spanning all 50 states, 140 countries, 31 languages represented and 5412 towns worldwide . If possible, let's all work together to achieve our current goal of 2,500,000 signatures. We'll get there if everyone shares the card with a few more friends.

I wish you all the very best and will post another update on Friday morning.

Thank u for sharing yhe most wonderful thought with me! I Love u all qwith all my heart

Joe 'Jay' Jordan

The fact of the matter is there's a lot of Americans who also 'love God' and guns, and misuse their ownership of guns in situations such as this. If you love God so much, you wouldn't believe that owning a weapon capable of harming someone so severely is right. What would Jesus do?

GUNS DO NOT KILL - PEOPLE DO!!! PRAY TO GOD TO SAVE THE
PEOPLE WHO HAVE THIS INTENT TO KILL OTHERS!!!

I will happily sigh a petition which favours control of murder weapons.
The constitution is outdated and needs serious revision.
You are living in 2013 not the1700's.
Times change it is time for change. Guns Kill what else are they for?
I am sure I have already signed this. :)

Gun control isn't about protection but just as it says...CONTROL

There is no CONTROL when all those defenceless teachers & kids get GUNNED down. How many times has this happened? I know what I'm talking about too. I had a really good friend shot by a jealous idiot.Once you shoot to kill in a fit of anger there is no going back, no 'Oops sorry, I was really angry, but I'm not angry now' too late mate.

MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH EVERYONE!!!!!! MAY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS EACH AND EVERYONE THAT WAS AFFECTED BY THIS HORRIBLE ACT.

Dianne Taylor-Bertling

We all were affected one way or another. God give us the strength and wisdom to do what you would have us to do. Watch over our children where ever they may be. Thank you Heavenly Father for sending your little Angels to us. No matter how insignificant the issues are or how great the pain people people need to fall on their knees and ask for your guidance and healing.

Sandy Pritchard

When I saw this tragic news on the Today Show, I cried, I cried for the families, their little ones taken abruptly away and the teachers who lost their lives that day trying to protect their little ones there, they are Heroes. My deepest condolences to the all the families that lost their the ones they loved most. May God be with you all and let Him bring you peace. They are with their Daddy now and He is loving them with all that He is.

I will proudly sign and support. I've been surrounded by too many lives lost by gun violence. At the end of the day, i am just looking to try and protect innocent victims. If nothing else, I think we owe people the act of trying. Maybe if people came to a reasonable agreement, my 16yr old nephew would not have been gunned down by a neighborhood gang. Maybe if people could have a realistic discussion about the issue at hand, they would realize these victims are not just statistics, or...

any violence against innocent people is wrong most importantly children. They are the most innocent of everyone. Any American should be honored to sign a petition of this nature.

I do have sympathy for those who lost loved ones. But I believe in the 2nd amendment and do not believe with the gun rules that it will stop murder. Those who want to kill...will always get guns, and not in a legal way. They start making certain rules/regulations as step one....and sooner or later they take all your guns. Then only the criminals will have guns. You really have had to lose your common sense not to see this coming. People kill others with knives, bombs, etc....and you don't...

I continue to pray nightly for the 20 lost angels and the 6 teachers. May God Bless all that were left behind but will be reunited one day with your loved ones.

My prayers go to the families send the Sandy Hook school. I personally have been affected by gun violence.

I would NEVER sign anything that has any kind of gun reform in it, unless the change will make it easier to buy and own a gun. Like most of the people I know, I have never been in any trouble. However my husband and a few of my friends have felonies. I would rather every single friend that has been in trouble own a gun than several of these people who have no record at all. If a criminal is going to break the law of owning a gun, they aren't going to Bass Pro or any other store to buy it.They are going to a 'private party or neighbor' and regardless of how many millions of laws, regulations, rules, restrictions, and other b*llsh*t you add on, they will be able to get any kind of gun they want before I could. Reduce the restrictions on gun laws so I can be able to purchase and own a gun to protect my family and property more easily. I am not a felon, nor have I ever been in any trouble at all! I did not say the people I knew with felonies had guns either! I was saying I would feel safer with those people having guns rather than some of the people I know that don't have felonies. Not everyone has made a mistake in the past will do something bad again. To that effect, Some people that I've never been in trouble might commit a crime. This is obviously a clear case of a liberal Twisting another person's words. Learn to read and not change the story!

Isabel Dunlop

Sharri your reply says it all. You and your kind should never be let near any weapon. It seems that not only are you the type that would shoot first and ask questions later you are also likely to shoot yourself or a member of your family or friend. One day someone will say or do something you don't like and the first thing you will think of is gun. You are an imbecile and no I don't own a gun!!
