Demand that New Zealand BAN testing PARTY PILLS on Dogs and other animals!

To: New Zealand Government, Peter Dunne- Associate Health Minister, Tony Ryall, Health Minister

Dogs shouldn't die so humans can get high.
We the undersigned, are opposed to the testing of psychoactive drugs (party pills) on animals, and demand that you rethink this cruelty.

Dogs shouldn't die so humans can get high.
We the undersigned, are opposed to the testing of psychoactive drugs (party pills) on animals, and demand that you rethink this cruelty.
"It is barbaric. Dogs and other animals shouldn't be made to suffer just so that we can get legal highs on store shelves."
Last year 37 per cent of the 327,000 animals used in research, testing and teaching in New Zealand died or were put down during projects.
Psychoactive drugs will join the group of products being tested on animals under proposed regulations for producers to prove they are safe before they go on sale.
There is simply no need for animals to suffer in this way.

It is 2012 and there are many other ways to conduct experiments. These include:

* In vitro cell culture.

* In silico computer simulation.

* Skin irritancy tests performed on human skin.

* Use of donated human blood for pyrogenicity studies.

* Microdosing - using humans to tests drugs at doses well below those expected to produce whole of body effects.

Alternatively..If drug testing has to be done, why can't Pedophiles or other criminals be used? We urge NZ to take a stand against animal cruelty and become one of the first countries to ban animal testing!
Sincerely...

Dogs shouldn't die so humans can get high.
The NEW ZEALAND government wants to change the law so that manufacturers of legal recreational drugs have to prove they are safe. Currently regulators have to prove they are unsafe.
The change has sparked an uproar over methods of testing the drugs.
Associate Health Minister - Mr Dunne said he has ruled out a controversial LD50 animal test whereby doses are given to a sample group of animals until half of the test group dies.
"It is a horrible test," Mr Dunne said on Sunday.

New Zealand every year uses hundreds of thousands of animals in biological, medical or veterinary research; testing; production of biological agents; teaching and environmental management.

Last year, 327,674 animals were used this way. These included 978 cats, 39 of whom suffered "high impact" as a result. More than 20,000 fish were used, with 3128 suffering "very high impact," while 70,608 mice were subjected to these practices and 11,365 suffered "very high impact".

Other animals who suffered very high impacts were guinea pigs, rats, pigs and sheep. More than 1000 dogs were used, as were more than 1000 reptiles and 659 horses.

Over the past five years, the number of animals exploited this way has been rising, rather than falling. In 2007, it was 246,667, climbing to 341,520 in 2008 and being less than 300,000 in 2009 and 2010 before increasing to 327,674 last year.

Between 2007 and 2011, the percentage of animals who died or were euthanased as a result of their use ranged from 55 per cent in 2009 to 37 per cent last year.

Before this, the number of animals used in research had peaked in 1994 before dropping to 160,000 in 1995. When the number increased to 325,000 in 2001, it was reported as "skyrocketing". But the 2001 figure was actually lower than the number of animals exploited last year.

There is simply no need for animals to suffer in this way.

For God's sake, this is not a cure for caner they are looking for, this is protecting people who just want to get high! don't do it!

I am opposed to using criminals as test subjects. Sometimes the person incarcerated is innocent, and subjecting humans to such dangerous chemicals that have the potential to ruin their cognitive abilities is wrong. The drugs being marketed are designed to make a profit regardless of the side effects. The drugs that can be patented are the money makers for big pharmaceuticals while other drugs are kept in the shadows. I am very opposed to using animals for this type of testing. I'm not...

I'm not signing this petition because it says at the end the criminals should be used for testing. Making an emotional appeal based on a subjective condition doesn't allow room for reviewing the facts first before passing a personal judgment.

They imprison people everyday for using, trafficking, selling drugs, pot, etc but here is this big oaf of a industry doing whatever it wants to whoever or whatever, most governments don't have the resources or willingness to stand up to them, that by design..

I can hardly believe this. I too thought New Zealand was a highly humane country. I also do not like the last line of the petition, however, where they suggest doing the trials on pedophiles and other criminals instead. No human or animal should be subjected to testing without their permission.

What is happening in our world? WE are here to love and take care of animals not torture them. I want these people prosecuted. Long prison sentences.
I will pray for the good journalists and animal rights activists who are exposing this cruelty. In the history of human behavior how low must we go before the world is in complete chaos and no one knows the meaning of love and compassion.

TEST ON PRISONERS.
