Bring unused, winterized FEMA trailers to Gerritsen Beach

Please bring the 100 unused FEMA trailers that are sitting in Pennsylvania and ALL other available FEMA trailers to Gerritsen Beach, Brooklyn and other nearby areas that have been affected by Sandy.

Our residents need temporary housing near their homes so that they can get their kids to and from school, repair their home, meet with FEMA, Rapid Repairs, Insurance Companies and still maintain their employment. These trailers can be placed on the private property (yards) of some Gerritsen Beach residents or placed on land in local Marinas (boat yards). Many lost their cars in the flood as well.

The situation is getting worse for Gerritsen Beach residents that do not have the funds to repair the severe damage caused by this natural disaster. They need more help and support than they have already received in order to survive.

Seniors, families with children, as well as people with disabilities are homeless, freezing, sick, and are becoming increasingly distressed. We have been very lucky that severe, freezing temperatures have not hit us yet, but that luck is about to run out. When we have a few days of wind and below-freezing temperatures, we will find that we have waited far too long for these trailers.

We urge you to change your policy and bring these winterized trailers to Gerritsen Beach and the rest of NY before it is too late!

Sincerely,

25,000

The community of Gerritsen Beach and surrounding area is in desperate need of help. We have paid our fair share in tax dollars over the years. I would never think this would happen in the USA since our government sends in our great military to provide humanitarian aid in times of crisis - to sets up towns, create shelters, provide medical assistance, food and needed essentials to the victims of disaster. However, our Gerritsen Beach residents have been left in the dark, are cold and are now trying to cope with the realities of having to rebuild their entire home while living with mold.

Our community is at risk and the lives of our family, friends and neighbors are at stake unless there is a HUGE, TIMELY response put forth from our government and other American citizens.

Please Help Us Save These Hardworking Citizens of the United Sates of America!

We need your help NOW! We cannot wait any longer! These trailers can make a huge difference in the lives of so many - please help bring them to Gerritsen Beach and New York.

All the best,
Michael Taylor
Chairman of the Board
Gerritsen Beach Cares, Inc.

We also found out this weekend that FEMA is bringing trailers to New Jersey because their Representatives have pushed for them. We have not yet received word that the Mayor's office has changed its stance on FEMA trailers.

Sadly, for the residents of New York, New Jersey officials seem more motivated to get their constituents what they so desperately need and deserve.

We are asking for your help signing and fowarding this petition to as many people as possible to show NYC and FEMA that they must bring these trailers and mobile homes to Gerritsen Beach and other affected areas of New York City ASAP. Gerritsen Beach alone currently has a list of over 100 families requesting a local place to live. Any further delay is unconscionable and completely unacceptable. The Mayor's office has put forward the Rapid Repairs Program as an alternative solution to provide "Shelter-in-Place", however, that program has been painfully slow in its progress and completely ignores the issue of mold, which makes a "Shelter-in-Place" uninhabitable and dangerous. Our residents are getting sicker by the day, the mold is rampant, funds have not been coming in fast enough, and they have been working tirelessly in this terrible weather to restore their homes. In this season of giving, let's provide the affected residents with a warm space for their families that is close to their home and will give them the hope and resolve that is necessary to recover from Sandy.

Please help these families whose lives have been crushed under the weight of Sandy and give them a place to celebrate this Season if Hope and Renewal!

WE MUST HELP NEEDY HUMANS AT THE RIGHT TIME.AS WE ARE ALSO HUMAN.

Hey, Muhammad, I like it! There are Commandments in the three chapters of Exodus following ch.20 (which has 12, not Ten) that reminds the Hebrews "for ye were strangers".

For the victims of Sandy the nightmare has just begun. I live in FL was hit by three hurricanes in 2004. I have just this year replaced my roof that was new in 1999 with inherited funds. No one is loaning money, there are no low interest loans for the victims. Next came the DISASTER CAPATALISTS, the price of building materials soared, toxic trailers were purchased from Bush cronies and stored at great expense, never used! Devious Jeb and G. W. No one is loaning money, there are no low interest loans for the victims. Next came the DISASTER CAPATALISTS, the price of building materials soared, toxic trailers were purchased from Bush cronies and stored at great expense, never used! Devious Jeb and G. W. Bush gave FEMA funds to residents of Miami where there were no storms to buy the ‘election’ for Bush in 2004. There is much more to this vast scandal in the Palm Beach Post and the Sun Sentinel. FEMA has become ineffective since Bush put the agency under the unwieldy Department of Homeland Security.

The National Guard with their duty of assistance in natural disasters at home was deployed to Iraq. The military constructed cities with air-conditioned tents in Iraq. Bush built the biggest American Embassy in the world in Iraq while storm victims suffered at the expense of his war of choice.

Blue tarps only last a few months in the FL sun. Sandy victims in the NE live in a different climate with freezing weather they need help ASAP. FAIR WARNING many victims in FL and the victims of Katrina still have not recovered. I have extensive interior damage that still needs repair. I consider myself lucky to at least have a roof over my head living in a small part of my home. I am 70, retired with no clue how I will find the funds to finish repair of my home.

HELP SANDY VICTIMS.

Obama has been President for 4 years ... for crying out loud ... stop blaming Bush! Bloomberg isn't allowing the trailers, FEMA (under the OBAMA Administration) hasn't stepped up ... Cuomo isn't doing anything but standing on the sidelines as a cheerleader for his President. And you're still stuck on Bush??? Holy crap ... some people never get a clue!

Jorgi Crews Sanders

Patrick Ferry , thank you ! I'm sick of the bull on blame everybody but the real culprit . Obama doesn't care ! Strange thing to ,is many people in NY and Jersey ,voted for him and many Floridians also . I'm a native , born and raised FL. maybe now they see what they really get with him !!!!

Where does all of our tax dollars go? Not to Americans that need help immediately. Yet we send billions to countries that hate us. Help these people called AMERICANS NOW............

While I agree with the main sentiment here, that the taxes we pay are misused. I reject the idea that the whole of any country hates us. Most of the people in a poor country do not even know us. We spend billions on weapons of war, and although we ban reprocessing that would reduce the lifetime of nuclear waste a thousandfold, we STILL retain nuclear weapons. We allow people who receive vastly more annual income than the President of the USA does, to pay far less than the difference between what their labor, if any, is worth, and what they actually receive.

Clyde Beaver

Look what we have for leadership. What do you expect, Bloomberg and the other leader, both need removed

This is an excellent idea for using resources we already have. Please help.

If this happeed in a terroist country these fucking librail assholes would have had half the military over there with battle ships loaded with food and clothes and shelter!

Donna McEachran

Your where is the supplies for the people who need it here?

A.m. Madasheck

NO you are mistaken it was Bush that gave the Taliban $43 million dollars in May of 2001.

Please Help the residents of Gerritsen Beach have some place warm to spend the winter.

Pamela Pitts

I didn't have to live in a trailer from FEMA after Hurricane Katrina but know many that did, please help the victims of Sandy. You would want the help if you lost your home, you'd get tired of living in a shelter. Or better yet go spend a fe days in a shelter then you'll appreciate a small unit just for your family!
