Felons Deserve a Say

Honorable Senator,

We feel that convicted felons in the United State of America are being deprived of their basic right to vote. Although convicted felons have violated the law, they still live in a society affected by local, state, and federal elections.

Many people are able to turn their lives around, as is the goal of probation and parole programs. These people become productive members of society, tax payers, and members of their community. As much as anyone, they deserve a say in the world they live in.

Depriving convicted felons of the right to vote is denying a large group of people a basic American right. Because they violated a law, they have lost their say in our society. Some may reform and some may not, but we are all United States citizens, and should therefore have equal say.

We would like this issue brought to the forefront of social issues. Denying felons the right to vote is wrong, and awareness of this issue is miniscule. Please help us make this issue more public!

Ronnie run for President. President George W. Bush was a convicted felon on DWI. He also had to get a waiver to hold a security clearance.

John Browne Why his right to vote, why not his right to drive or drink, instead?

If your a liar or a thief you don't rate very high in society but after 10 years I feel you should be allowed to vote and become a citizen again. If you are a 3 time felon you should just be stoned to death. Everyone deserves a second chance. Any one convicted of a felony that was possession of Marijuana should have their record cleared after probation as the law states.

And, druggies never should be President like your crackhead hero, President George W. Bush Jr, who got arrested for crack possession.

Get a life John and start trolling on some Australian sites!!! Like for instance you Aussies need to stop killing the kangaroos!!!!

"Because they violated a law, they have lost their say in our society"...as it should be.

John Browne

I'm with you Enid.

Except Felons can become President. President George W. Bush Jr was the first President of the US to have a Felony.

Absolutely, they should be able to vote. Also, getting a job is very important. Most places will not even consider you. You should not have to pay for the rest of your life!!!

pay and pay and pay you will.... your life is over. There will be NO employer who will hire you (not in my field), and nearly all housing will be cut off forever.

DUI's aren't felonies, people, in ANY state. They don't affect your right to vote.

Jennifer Prouse

You would be wrong Michael, the first one is not a felony. #2 and on are felonies. So yes a DUI CAN be a felony charge depending on how many you acquire.

IN A.Z., IF YOUR ARRESTED MORE THAN LIKELY YOUR ABOUT TO BECOME A FELON.THEY HAVE CRAZY LAWS LIKE "D.U.I. TO THE SLIGHTEST DEGREE" WHICH MEANS THAT IF YOU DRANK THE NIGHT BEFORE, TOOK A CAB HOME, GO BACK TO RETRIEVE YOUR CAR, GET STOPPED,& THEY DECIDE YOUR INTOXICATED(EVEN IF YOUR TOTALLY SOBER)DEMAND A BLOOD TEST & FIND EVEN THE SMALLEST AMOUNT OF ALCOHOL OR FOR THAT MATTER AN "O.T.C."DRUG, YOU'VE JUST BECAME A FELON.

John Browne

That saves lives.

Stormchaser Onne

Rick wrong it is a DUI Impaired to the Slightest Degree is a class 1 misdemeanor. And, if you wait 2 hours before driving you will not get charged. http://www.azleg.state.az.us/ars/28/01381.htm If you breath .05 or less you are safe from going to jail and losing your license. Over the Counter becareful what you take, only thing which keeps you safe is Doctor Prescribed Medication.
