Whales are smarter than the average fish. They have families and mourn when a family member is killed. The Southern Antarctic Whale Sanctuary was created to protect these magnificent animals from your greedy commercial whaling practices. Using the term "scientific research" to cover up your illegal commercial whaling practices is wrong. Whales are intelligent creatures they deserve respect and need to be treated humanely.

In this image is a young Minke whale thrashing around in pain after being harpooned by the whalers. In the last IWC meeting Joji Moroshita the IWC delegate for Japan stated that the methods of killing have been greatly improved with the time of death becoming "almost instantaneously". In reality it took 20 minutes for this whale to die from the harpoon strike and three additional rifle shots to the head.

In 1986, the International Whaling Commission (IWC) enacted a moratorium on all commercial whaling. Since then, three nations - Iceland, Norway, and Japan - have brutally slaughtered over 25,000 whales for commercial purposes under the guise of scientific research. The IWC does not have the power to enforce the moratorium...we do. Together we can end this senseless killing.
