Dear Church Leaders:

Thank you for your recent letter to the members of the United States Congress asking them to hold Israel accountable in its use of U.S. military aid. We agree that Congress should make the disbursement of U.S. military assistance to Israel contingent on the Israeli government’s compliance with applicable U.S. laws and policies. We join in your call for Congressional hearings to examine Israel's compliance with such laws.

We gratefully acknowledge that your letter reflects the positions of your respective churches and organizations regarding human rights violations by Israelis against Palestinians, the expansion of Israeli settlements in occupied territory, and the right of Israelis and Palestinians to live in peace and security. We agree wholeheartedly with your statement that unconditional US military aid contributes to "the deteriorating conditions in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories which threaten to lead the region further away from the realization of a just peace."

We encourage you to remain steadfast in the course you have begun, despite the verbal attacks that have been leveled and the opposition that is certain to continue in response to your courageous action. Please know that you have our full support and lasting appreciation for the exemplary leadership you have shown.

With respect and gratitude,

Earlier this month, 15 prominent church leaders sent Members of Congress an historic letter in which they decried "widespread Israeli human rights violations committed against Palestinians."

The church leaders wrote that "unconditional U.S. military assistance to Israel has contributed to this deterioration, sustaining the conflict and undermining the long-term security interests of both Israelis and Palestinians."

We fully support their call for "an immediate investigation into possible violations by Israel of the U.S. Foreign Assistance Act and the U.S. Arms Export Control Act" and for the "withholding of military aid for non-compliance" with these laws.

This letter is huge—our demand for accountability for Israel's misuse of U.S. weapons is now going mainstream!

Whether or not you identify with one of the denominations whose leaders signed this letter, please take a moment right now to thank the church leaders for their important letter to Congress.

Clearly this petition organizer is either clueless or antisemitic. How quickly 9/11 is forgotten - militant Muslims are provokers and attackers who cry when fire is returned. They do not hesitate to use women and children as part of their strategy. Wake up and see terror for what it is. Ever since Israel's independence they have been bombarded and lost piece of land for piece of land. In the 21st century intelligent people should think intelligently. The same people who sign this will vote...

Ever since Israel's independence they have been bombarded and lost piece of land for piece of land. In the 21st century intelligent people should think intelligently. The same people who sign this will vote for changes to the constitution, protect terrorists, and fight for socialism - oblivious to history. And these same people will cry revenge when they are attacked again by terrorists - from Italy to London's underground to other important structures in America.

9/11 was not forgotten but you were hearing through the wrong lying media about who is to blame; Israel is!!! Google 5 dancing Israelis or do some REAL research not controlled by the Jews here: http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/archivos_pdf/synagoguesatan.pdf The Palestinians are the ones being massacred by the Jews who were kicked out of Spain!

What on Earth are you talking about? Go back 20 years before the 6-day war. Israel was created to give Jews a place to stay. It was created by forcefully removing Palestinians from their land. YOU read your history.

I think Israel just protect them selves from HAMAS AND HEZB ALLAH... AND THAT IS RIGHT TO BE DONE.

What's with the personal attack on Shady? Just state your case about israel and palestine and be done with it. You had nothing to add about the subject matter, but felt so compelled to point a finger at someone you don't know to prove your lack of intelligence. Jeesh!

Why not? He needs to be educated about the truth. If not, he is the oppressor.. and so are you, since you don't seem to want the truth to come out.

Israel uses U.S. financial aid to wage war on the Palestinians, using the most sophisticated weaponry, including experimental & illegal weapons. They are guilty of countless war crimes. Their evil acts must be stopped.

David- you seem to take a very one sided view of a very complicated situation. Does Israel do wrong? of course- Israel is not always right and they should be held accountable just as any country should (but not more so- witness the fixation of the UN on Israel while countries like Syria and Libya are given Human RIghts positions at UN!!!). But you need to realize that Israel, a country filled with jewish refugees who have been mistreated all over the world (inclduing many Jews form Middle Eastern countries- Libya, Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Persia etc) where they were/are treated as second class citizens) , is surrounded by forces that have officially stated their goal is to destroy Israel , including Hezbollah, Hamas, Al Qaeda, Islamic Jihad etc- these are all very reactionary groups with an agenda hostile to women's rights, gay rights, modern science and art- do you really want their perspective/stance on the world strengthened? Should Israel be encouraged/pressured to come to terms with *moderates* in the region?- yes! But it should not be subject to one-sided analyses and illogical boycotts while "progressives" in the U.S. with its drone strikes all over the world (and false pretexts for war in Iraq etc) or UK (Iraq, Afghanistan) pass judgement colored by guilt over their colonial histories. My 3 cents! Ofer

Thank you, Moyra!

Israel stop the war and go towards peace for a change. Who gave them all the amunition in the first place? beats me

SAME PEOPLE WHO GAVE THE IRA WEAPONS TO BOMB MY MANCHESTER (USA). Is that the same church, where in the Vatican daily prayers were held for Hitler?

we should have freedom and live in peace , and they should stop occupations and killing peoples /peace and freedom.

.Israel must be held accountable.
