Victory! Whole Foods Will Label Its GMOs

Victory-ribbon
CONGRATULATIONS to the more than 15,000 Causes users who signed this petition to Whole Foods Market! We've won! Whole Foods is going to label all genetically engineered ingredients in their stores by 2018. This is the first major victory in the North American movement for mandatory GMO labels. The campaign to get Whole Foods Market to voluntarily label its GMOs was started by the Organic Consumers Association in 2011 when we started doing "food dumps." We'd buy a bunch of GMO package foods at Whole Foods, symbolically "dump" it into hazmat containers and then return the packages to the store, unharmed, but marked with our "Oh No! Is it GMO?" labels. The campaign's big finale was the undercover video expose by Organic Spies that caught misinformed store employees trying to convince customers that Whole Foods didn't sell GMOs. We used this video and leveraged the power of Causes through petitions and pledges to connect with supporters like you to put sustained pressure on Whole Foods' store managers and the company finally took action. You made this happen! Thank you!

Now that the truth has come out, you cannot continue to keep consumers in the dark about the GMO’s sold in your stores. Even though you claim to support Proposition 37, the California ballot initiative to label genetically engineered foods, your "endorsement" contains misleading information that reads straight from the opposition’s playbook and you refuse to donate even a single dollar to support the measure. We ask that you take immediate action to honestly label all GMOs present in your stores and commit to financially supporting Prop. 37 so that other grocers must also ensure that people can make educated, healthy decisions about the foods they buy.

Whole Foods Market claims to be "America's Healthiest Grocery Store." However, Organic Spies recently conducted an undercover hidden camera investigation of Whole Foods that told quite a different story. The video exposes that the "organic grocer" sells a massive amount of unlabeled GMOs at its stores, including many products containing Monsanto's GM corn - the same strain of genetically engineered corn that French researchers recently linked to massive cancer tumors in rats. Worse still, the grocer's employees are caught on film blatantly lying to consumers, claiming Whole Foods sells no GMOs at all.

Adding fuel to the fire, as soon as the Organic Spies' video began to go viral online, YouTube censored it (most likely due to complaints from Whole Foods itself).

You can still watch the full video on TV.naturalnews.com.

Whole Foods has also officially responded to the incriminating hidden camera footage by admitting that they do sell GMOs in their stores. Still, many of their employees remain completely unaware of this. As Whole Foods states in its blog:

"The YouTube video showing our store Team Members giving conflicting responses to a question about GMOs reminds us that while we try to keep all our 70,000 Team Members up-to-speed on the latest information, clearly we need to do more. Some products in our stores DO contain GMOs -- just like any other food store in the country, due to the pervasiveness of GMOs..."

The Whole Truth About Whole Foods' GMO Labeling Policy

Whole Foods made a huge splash in the media last week when the company announced that its U.S. and Canadian stores will be required to label all genetically engineered foods in its stores, by 2018. But five years? Surely the largest national organic grocer in the country can do better than that. After all, Whole Foods is already labeling in its European stores.

Don't get us wrong. This is great news. It's a clear victory for consumers and the GMO labeling movement. And a serious blow to Monsanto. And it's proof that marketplace pressure works, that consumers have the power to change food policy. So let's take it a step further. Whole Foods makes billions of dollars a year selling products that carry the misleading "natural" label. Not only do most of these products contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs), but they're also full of pesticides, synthetic chemicals and a host of very unnatural additives. It's time for Whole Foods to clean up its whole act, by creating a policy that says no product in its stores can be called "natural" if it contains GMOs. Or any of that other unnatural stuff.

I will quit to buy from Wholefoods, unless they are clear their act and play clean!

Well, this is news to share! I am not shopping there any longer. What a shame; many people shop there (even though the prices are higher) because they feel it is more beneficial to their health. What a rude awakening!

In the 80s & 90s Up to today, Most of the small organic producers we knew & trusted were bought up by the major gmo producers & processors. Then the new owners of these lines got together & demanded Whole Fools cease the anti gmo advocacy. TALK ABOUT DIVIDE & CONQUER-Now we must do the same to them.

CHEMICALS ARE NOT FOOD

Your spending choices are a powerful statement. I will be shopping somewhere else, Plow to Porch in SB.
Plow to Porch does it right. They know their farmers by name. They are active in the SB Local & Organic movement.
Perhaps they happened to follow TQM strategies by accident; E F Demming would have approved. Plow to Porch is successful because they have active & direct relationships with their suppliers, personnel and customers. Support local Family owned Farms and their workers.

Where is "Plow to Porch? never heard of it here in Indiana.

We need Honesty.

I wonda y a GMO product should b sold undercover from d buyer...That shows dat the GMOs are nt gud 4 consumption

sorry but I don't believe Whole Foods will honour this and do another u turn before 2018. 2018 - that's 5 years time. What about tommorow? That would mean they aren't going to lie and back out.
